This posting is for a friend who recently hunted Chufiti's Nuanetsi Concervency with PH Andy Hunter. I'm posting pictures and he'll tell the tails. Thanks Brett for posting the pictures. My hunting career has been focused on western bird hunting until 2008 and a successful leopard hunt with Andy Hunter. The fever hit me hard and here I am in Nuanetsi four safaris later. I like to hunt chukar and Andy likes to walk. My kind of hunting and he has taught a lot over the past few years. We have hunted Chewore North and South as well as NG 42 in Botswana. This 10 day hunt was superlative like the others. Brent Leesmay is doing a marvelous job restoring this now game rich area. The water hole system is magnificent. Anthony Howland after his terrible accident is doing a fantastic job managing the main camp. A real gentleman and now a friend. I was immediately impressed by the game rich concession. Game was everywhere. The large no hunting area around camp was a real treat. Two other hunters in camp were after leopard and both were successful. Everyone hunted hard and camp dynamics were awesome. A fun group. The campfire sessions were epic.. Andy had not hunted this area for years so our first few days were spent exploring. It didn't take long to find game. Buff and nyala were on my quota list. Having shot buff in Chewore, nyala was number one on the list. Early on we found a beautiful 25" nyala but Andy pulled me off the sticks. Said we could do better so I reluctantly complied. Sage advise as it turns out. A nice bull wildebeest and a late evening civet were the first animals to hit the salt. Both firsts for me. Next came two nice warthogs which had eluded me on prior hunts. I was feeling very confident and then buck fever hit me. The nyala really had me!!! Not an easy animal to walk up on and get a shot. Very wary. Left my safety on twice with fleeting opportunities. The final blow was a huge 30" plus bull at 100 yards and I shot 2 feet low. Off to the range and ahha, a malfunctioning scope. The 9.3x62 was put away and my 458 Lott became the go to gun. We tracked dugga boys off and on but with the swirling wind, thick brush, and groups guarded by wary zebra, hunting was tough to say the least. It all came together in the end with a nice 30" nyala and fine 42" buff. On day 10 we finished up with a zebra stallion. Bird season is a month away but I'm already dreaming about my return to Zim. | |||

Great buff, nice drop and pushing 40"! Well done too on a huge civet! On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.
