Hi all

I thought I’d add a day by day hunt report as I’m on safari right now and
we have wifi in camp this year !

Landed in Windhoek on Tuesday morning and went out to the Khomas Hochland
On a 3 day mountain zebra hunt. The weather wasn’t kind and we had strong winds and
Very unseasonable rain!

Basically only opportunity was on the first afternoon when driving around the
Mountains trying to spot some zebra up in the hills when 5 jumped out in front of the vehicle
Stood there looking at us 80m up the valley!
Both PH and myself said it wasn’t sporting and we happily left them .......

The rest of the time we spent hiking up and done those hills and just never managed to get a clear shot at a stallion within 300m.

So we missed out but I will return for round 2 next year !!

We relocated to Bushmanland today and are in camp readying for our ele bull starting tomorrow!

Hope to shoot some plains game along the way.

Will update you as I go .........::

Charlie, Don’t know who Phillip is?
Only 2 operators in Bushmanland are SMJ
and Thormalen
SMJ have the best area being Nyae Nyae which is where I am hunting

Saw 7 bulls today, including one sporting a satellite collar.
He was a good 65lb on one side and broken off at the lip at the other
Trying to find out a bit mor about the collar. He must have come in from Kaudum
National park or Botswana.

Looking forward to tomorrow !!

Another day in ele Paradise!
Saw 9 bulls today in total ,

Got in close and found one shooter but it was just too late in the evening and could not see the sights well enough for a side brain shot.
Hope to pick up the tracks in the morning and find the old bull tomorrow

We did 20kms on the gps today , the jess is quite thick and a lot of thorny stuff .

Legs are grazed but it was a great day walking and stalking these majestic creatures!!!
In camp now having G&Ts and talking about the day and planning tomorrow.
It doesn’t get much better than this!!!!!

Till tomorrow.......

Thanks all for the comments.
Sitting at campfire now having morning coffee
Before heading out.
Ozhunter, yes they did install the ivory night sight,
But it was stil too difficult to see well enough to shoot accurately
On a side brain. Had 2 other bulls mulling around as well and we were in thick Jrss
So it was pretty dark!!!
Morten, yeah the English trash double may well get it’s turn today!!

Cheers all.....

Well guys , happy to report we caught up with
The right bull and the Westley Richards 500 has been
Baptised!!!!!

After 2 days and 45 kms of shoe leather , we managed to get into
Position for a side brain that wasn’t perfect but We got him after a follow up.

Took a whole day to recover as we had to cut in a recovery road over 6ks into some thick bush.
That took us 6 hrs plus quite a few hrs to butcher the beast.

Just near camp I was lucky to shoot a fantastic big old heavy /wide white tipped Kudu bull
The type I’ve been looking for for the last 5 or 6 Safaris!

Smoking some Cubans around the fire now, soaking it all up.
It doesn’t get much Better than this !!!!!!!

Tomorrow we are on the tracks of Eland , and will prepare a blind for hyena on the remains of the ele.

Looking forward to the next chapter.......

Busy the last 2 days sorting our hyena blind and chasing some Eland all the way to Botswana!!!
Damn they can walk!!!! We cut tracks early in the morning and thought we were in wit a chance , but they headed into thick bush and kept motoring for 5 hrs!!! We pulled out just short of the border and has a 7km walk to get out of the thick stuff!!!! Wasn’t fun but we gave it a good go.
Tomorrow early morning we will sit for hyena on the ele carcass......

Well, happy to say we got our hyena on the first sit at the blind!!

Everything went to plan for a change.
We were in the blind by 530am with sunrise at 7am . We could hear them calling close by and then gnawing on the ele carcass.

The moon set at about 545am so couldn’t make out much at all.
We waited till sunrise, and then one appears about 30 m behind the ele.
Blind was 47m from the carcass.

The sun was getting up and I thought that it will be our only chance
So I let him have it.
The 250ttsx from my 375 connected , and after a follow up there he was lying in the glorious
morning light!!

The best pelt of my 6 hyenas so far!! Light blonde colour with pronounced spots
and very thick long mane. He wasn’t my biggest hyena, weighs about 65kg
But was confirmed as male so that’s why. Females are bigger.

Just chilling in camp now, skinners are busy and we are heading out again this arvo looking for oryx.
Being on safari rocks!!!!

Nonsence ... open sights can be done with patience Wink
50m resting in a blind is easily doable. Just need the right amount of light tu2
Yes, typically the younger males get shot as they are last in line to feed once the big girls head for home

Oz
Yes it is doable with opensights, but in this case
The shot was at 77m and the hyena was partially obscured by the ribcage
of the el being in my shooting lane. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t have made the
shot with my 500 WR double and my eyesight!!!

Just been out again this morning looking for Oryx or Eland , no luck ......
Last days hunt tomorrow
Hopefully we can pull the ele tusks and see the weights before I head out.....
