I posted this in the taxidermy subsection, but also posting here for more traffic. http://forums.accuratereloadin...581088162#7581088162 Again, thanks to all who responded last January. I looked around, found the look I wanted and forgot where I found them. Anyone recognize the taxidermist(s)? Thanks There are two types of people in the world: those that get things done and those who make excuses. There are no others.

Call Jerry Huffaker in Abilene, TX. He is world class, he did my lion. It is amazing.

Jerry also did a lion for a friend as well as other taxidermy. Truly exceptional work. Lavaca if your thinking about a lion in Tanzania you might be better off applying for a permit after you take the lion.

It certainly doesn't hurt to have one in hand. I did contact Conservation Force before I went and used them for my permit when I returned. My hunt was a last minute deal. (Thanks again to Aaron Neilson.) As such, I opted for the "it's been taken route," but it all boils down to having solid numbers. If you have all your population numbers and the trophy fee allocated conservation $/local community $, etc and are able to get that all in ahead of time, that'd be great. The last time I checked (only 3 times in 2 years, none the first year) my permit was in the hands of the USF&W biologist examining the data. However, USF&W is very, very backed up. IIRC they were looking at permits on a country by country basis, not FIFO. So the only benefit is you'd get a head start on the wait. I doubt you'd get one in hand. But good luck. A good friend of mine shot a western Tanzania lion in September 19 and applied for his permit with Jackson's help afterwards. He received his permit last week. We were both hunting lion regardless of the permit and were told that we would have a better chance applying AFTER a lion was taken by some very knowledgeable PHs from Tanzania.

Thanks for the input. Just hate the delay associated with applying afterwards. You always lose some mane hair, but the sooner to get it to a taxidermist the better.

Phil Soucy is renowned for exactly one thing: cats. It's what he does. I had a Leopard done by him. I think he had 5 Lions in his shop when I picked up my Leopard!!! http://www.philipsoucy.com/
