Hi,

I'm new to this forum as I'm not much of an African hunter but I have just come back from a bit of a bash in the Okavango Delta.

We were in for 16 days and hunted elephant, red lechwe, impala and guinea fowl.

Our outfiter was Mark Kyriacou of Big Game and Bird Safaris operating out of Maun.

Our PH was Grant Albers and we were assisted by Mark's son George Kyriacou, also a PH.

I must say the whole thing was beautifully arranged, the camp was professionally and seamlessly organised and the atmosphere among the whole party was convivial and relaxed.

Top class advice and steady guiding from Grant, he really made the whole thing tick and my host, michael, bagged a big old bull with 70lb and 72lb ivory. I shot my first lechwe and impala and we saw all the big five (save rhino) and lots else besides - sometimes very close!

I heartily recommend all those concerned, from the trackers, Jackson an Matiti, to Mel, the camp organiser, tho the cook, the skinners and everyone else. A really professional operation.

If you want to read the whole story and see some pictures have alook at ARTICLES on www.vintageguns.co.uk

Welcome to the forums Small Bore. Congrats on a great hunt. The Kyriacou's are A-1 folks and my go-to Outfitters for Botswana. Maybe you'll now become an African Hunter?

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

LDK,

I keep trying to convince Small bore that we need to go back to Africa together, if for nothing else than to sit about and smoke some nice cigars with some good malts!!

Unortunatley he insists on going everywhere with his old muskets!!! Wink

Thank you very much for posting the link. Probably one of the best pieces I have had the pleasure of reading. A top notch story.

SB,

I've now read the piece, and it is indeed a great read. I'll start to read your book now instead of just looking at the pictures of pretty guns that are in it!!

K

Great writing and great story. The picture over the shoulder of the hunters as they face the elephant is very impressive.
