Hi all -

Will be in RSA sometime during the next months and would like to explore the alternative of hunting a good vaal rhebok. Any recommendation on the area/outfitter for a nice trophy, I would only have a couple of hunting days, probably.

Many thanks!

Bharal76

Vaal Rhebok is usually an exciting hunt in beautiful country. They are very wary with an expansive flight distance. I got the easy shot at 365 yards, my wife got the 635 yard shot.

KMG Safaris with Marius is a good outfit operating in the right part of the country for Vaalies.

Where will you be ? Jhb or CT ?

Adrian Salter near Mooi River got me a 9 1/2 inch vaalie. He has a super concession near Giants Castle. Plus bushpig.

Send me a PM and I'll get you his details if you want.

Cheers

Vaal shot on my bucket list hunt with Charl of Infinito Safaris. He'll also be able to put you on to a good Vaalie.

Those look like real killers, better make sure and take at least a .416, .458 or bigger might be even better.

Sort of hunting I would be very interested in. Beautiful hill country stalking a difficult and wary animal.

A spectacular antelope in its own right.

First, congratulations to the hunter on a beautiful trophy and mount. Not to stir the pot and perhaps it is just the angle of the pic (trophy or mount) but the trophy pic appears to be an animal with a fairly strong difference in length between the horns (left is shorter) and I am not seeing the same anomaly in the mount?

Charlie,
I was very fortunate to shoot a 9" Vaalie myself, many, many years ago, as a youngster. I did not even realise what I had shot, until years later, but quite lucky that I had him mounted at the time.

They are awesome animals which requires a lot of skill and a bit of luck.

One of the cheapest "sheep" hunts you can take. One of my guys missed a huge ram last July and a few weeks later another client took him. Just over 10 inches. My itinerary includes another Vaalie hunt next month. They are addictive if you love mountain hunting.
