Nice chatting with you last night. I love your Cookson's Wildebeast. What a gorgeous animal, I love his mane. I hope to take one next time.

Buffalo, Croc, Puku, Impala, Warthog, other opportunities in that order.

Only there for 7 days so the Buff gets the priority. If I get nothing but some great Buff stalks and a decent Bull I'm a happy camper.

I'll be in Namibia forst for some PG there.

I agree that you will love it!

If you can, try to shoot a Cookson's Wildebeeste. Its only found in Zambia on the Luangwa and is quite pretty. I think it looks very different from the Blue Wildebeeste you are likely to find elsewhere.

Have a blast!

I think the Cooksons are only available on a longer licence but I agree they are spectacular.

Frostbit,

You will have plenty of good stalks on buff and should have no problem at all taking a nice bull. We went about the same time of year that you are going and saw literally hundreds maybe thousands of buff, the herds cross over the river from the park. There are some real big boys (50" plus) living in the park that cross over to the concession so you may luck out and have a crack at a real monster. Good luck.

Cheers,
Andy

Guys, you know that dredging up this post has me incredibly homesick for my chalet on the Luangwa!
Frost, I think the puku is a uniqe trophy, I'd take one if you see a shooter. Andy and Charles are correct, you will see A LOT of buff....and probably some lions following them.

All the best....you would have to work hard not to have a great time there....do you know who you're hunting with?

The PH isn't set yet. I think it may depend on the timing of any cat hunters.

Jim, while most of these guys had Alister, and I met him also and spent a bit of time with him and concur 100% with their opinions, my PH was John DuPlooy. I got on very well with him and had a great time. I also met Terry and Abie and spent a bit of time with them also. This all being said, If you get any of the chaps listed....great times. Alister, of course, is no longer with Johnny, but as far as I know, Abie and Terry are.

Best of luck.

I will Gary. Joyce and I can't wait. 2010 seems a long way off. She's been bringing home any video on Africa she can find at the library. Some have been hokey but one the other niight was a photo safari trip to the Okavango (Botswana), Luangwa Valley (Zambia), and Lake Kariba (Zim) Ivan Carter was in the Lake Kariba portion.

The Luangwa portion had a Buffalo herd that had an absolute monster in it. As it was running dead away from the camera you could see horns sting out past each side of the critter.

It's also been fun to watch as my wife has gotten better and better at recognizing animals that she would not have known the names of two years ago.

Re-reading this thread made me realize how long ago I was still just dreaming about this trip. We leave in 4 days.

Good luck Frostbit, looking forward to a full report. Remember to prominately display that Selby endorsed .375 in every photo.

Come on Nganga, let's see a report on that sheep hunt.

The report will be nauseatingly long and in three parts. You bet the .375 will be in all the picks. It's prettier than me.

Nganga report.......... It rained, there was shale, sheep died. End of report.

P.S. Alaska too tough to hunt....sticking with Africa. popcorn
