Hello everyone dancing , I am new here and I have no idea how to use this system or upload a picture. But I wanted to create a post about my most recent hunting experience, so here it goes.
I have been ready and eager to do some elephant hunting; as I was unsuccessful in my previews attempt in Tanzania ( poaching has been terrible). But as luck would have it recently three things came together like a charm. One, I have been able to organize the spare time to do some serous hunting. Two, my friends from Madrid, master gun-makers Alvaro Hernandez and Rufino Zapata wanted to sponsor me in an elephant hunt. They wanted to film the use of my beautiful custom 470NE and get it dirty just to prove it is not just a work of art but also a serious professional field arm. And Three, I met PH Charlton McCallum at SCI.
Well, the day came that I arrived in Zimbabwe. I immediately fell in love with the country; it has beautiful scenery and very friendly people. We met at the Boma hotel and went off to the hunting camp. Charlton has a great operation, everything runs like clockwork. And even though this hunt took place in a true wilderness environment the service, food, wine, cleaning, skinning all was definitely as best at can be.
Though my plan was to dedicate the next 15 days to exclusively hunting 2 elephants, things changed pretty quick. You see on my very first day of following tracks for 4-5 hrs in 117 F, we came up to a very tall bull with splayed tusks that seem very long and thick. I recall Slowly walking up to him while looking for a window among the trees and high brush when suddenly he also walks towards me and stops. What an eerie feeling. Here I found my self 15 steps away from a beast my target up in the canopy. I could feel my angle of aim pointing towards the sky. AS I squeeeeze the trigger he moves his head I skim his brain and all hell breaks loose; shaking trees and rising dust. As he runs I get lucky enough to put a shot in his heart, another to his hip and down he goes. It was and incredible first day. Huge ele , probably 12,000 lbs, the tusks were symmetrical at 6.5 feet in each and 66lb R 65.8Lb L ......... Suddenly every other hunt in my life, though fun, seemed to loose meaning.

Now with plenty of days remaining we decide to get picky and look for a bigger elephant. What we did find was that the bush was full of life, herds of animals every where. So I decided to spice things up.
We hunted everything we could in the afternoons while looking for elephants in the morning. And so we carried on. I shot two buffalo, very old bulls one of which had 18.5 in bosses! The tail of these buffs were turned into a classical Spanish dish called " Rabo Encendido", stewed tail with a moderate amount of hot sauce. Accompanied by some very nice Cab in the bush and what else could you ask for.
Then I also shot 2 Kudus, 2 Livingston eland ,one sable, one giraffe. And in between these hunts twice the service prepared a steak BBQ of Bufallo, kudu, eland. O my it was so hard to sleep with so much food in our bellies. We felt like a python after swallowing a calf, we needed long nights to sleep off so much meat.

Towards the end, and after so much fun, I knew that like all things the safari was soon coming to an end. So I refocused on the elephant hunting. Never the less I must admit we saw elephant bull every day, total of about 180 bull during the safari. One day, we were so committed, we followed track for 6 hrs in 122 degrees Fahrenheit!! Anyhow, 3 days before the safaris ended the first rains came in with beautiful rolling thunder and the spectacle of lightning. Not knowing how this might affect the hunt, I felt the pressure of getting the second tag filled and so I committed to the first old bull. We walked behind him, I came up to 10 steps and the 470 NE performed marvelously; what a gracious caliber. Second bull was on the ground. Wow, this was a fantastic safari. CMS does a great a job and the country has excellent game. The tusk weighed in at 61 lbs !!!

when I learn how to upload pictures I will add them here

Since some of you have asked about my LARM rifle, I will send some pics over of a few guns from LARM.com. My hunting buddies in Madrid have a 100 year old family tradition of building big game rifles and best guns. But they have never done marketing. It's all by hand, one at a time. Their family have been the master-of-arms to two Kings of Spain, have built for One US President, one Prince of Qatar, Tony Sanchez Arino and many others.

Congratulations on two great Elephants - The only problem with hunting Elephants is it's addictive. One hunt is never enough.

I would, however, like to point out that your friends obviously need to show more than one hunter using their guns. Therefore, I'm officially volunteering my services for another sponsored hunt. It's tough duty but someone has to do it and I'm willing to go the extra mile to help out a fellow AR member. Wink

Thanks Biebs .
Great success for a fine hunt Le Chasseur! Now all your thoughts will be on hunting elephants ! clap

Rabo Encendido --Glad to see that the Spanish also have good uses for various parts of the animal. That dish must be similar to the Italian Coda de Bue [Ox Tail stew].
