Now and again you get a request to conduct a safari for the aged and infirm. Whilst Max was not disabled he had recently undergone heart surgery and would be unable to keep up with the normal pace of a safari. The Kafue is not an easy place to hunt for the most the country is open and the game alert. The buffalo we sought had now and again been hammered by the community and were constantly harassed by Lion.

What Max lacked in ability he made up with passion and a unwavering desire to hunt Africa's wild places. In his youth he had been a hard man and worked the Northern territories of Australia. Whilst still strong and powerfully built he simply lacked stamina. There were some special needs that had been prearranged and were catered for in camp.

For the most I with my men would track down the species he desired and then slowly and often too slowly we would walk up Max to his quarry. It was tricky and a little dicey when dealing with Buffalo at close quarters. Adrenaline did not help the old man's condition and the Buffalo typically had sought out the thick grass.

However despite the many challenges my trackers bought Max into close contact with many fine animals and after one memorable occasion of which concluded two full days of tracking we managed to push some dagga boys into the open and into the sights of his rifle. This buffalo proved to be very tenacious and although was repeatedly knocked down it kept raising its great body to confront us and I was asked to put it on the ground. An autopsy revealed 5 shots through the lungs and one through the heart. Mine was placed to break its neck.

This old man of the woods decided to leave the Roan for another occasion and will hunt this animal and others next year. Hence an opportunity to once again walk in the footsteps of wild beasts and to pursue his passion for the game.

Andrew;

I applaud you and your hunter! I have witnessed this first hand with my own husband and the dedicated PHs who have allowed him to experience, what the rest of us abled body hunters love, first hand! It is certainly not easy for PH or hunter but the results are "over the moon" in satisfaction!

Well done, Andrew!

Best regards, D. Nelson

Good show by all. Particularly liked the last two photos Andrew. Nicely framed and shot.

It will be Munyamadzi for Roan and for one of those oversized Buff that Thor has been nurturing.

See you in a few weeks mate.

I think it is because the bases were so thick Mark.

It is a common gene here and our 505 gibbs took one with 11 1/2 inch bases which I think was a first in the world?

Bravo to Andrew, his crew, and especially to this hunter !!! Hats off !!! Sort of reminds me of an incident in Northen Montana some years ago ..

The old man, in his eighties, had some very serious health problems .. had had strokes and heart attacks . had some kind of shunt . could not walk and really had a hard time standing ...

It was one of those wonderful late October days .. nothing but bright sunshine ... the skies were full of literally thousands of ducks, geese, and mostly tundra swans .. going in all directions and making a hell of a racket ..

I was standing in the middle of the marsh at Freeze Out Lake ... just staring .. turning around and around to take in the amazing spectacle .

My lady said that the old man arrived with his boy (probably 60) .. got out with his shotgun and leaning against the side of the vehicle .. when the time was right .. unleashed hell fire at a swan !!!

No way in hell that old man was going to be sitting around home waiting for the grim reaper and remembering hunts of yesteryear .. ... he was hunting !!!!
