Got home yesterday from a couple of great weeks in RSA. Me and two friends attended the African benchrest championships in Klerksdorp and after that we whent to do some hunting.

My first shot was at a Gemsbuck. Not a huge one but the stalk was good and I was a happy hunter.

One of my friends got a huge 40" Gemsbuck the same day.

This Impala was the result of a long and dificult stalk. I shot him in a small gap in the bush some 50 y away after beeing really close to a few rams for at least 15 min. Great stalking!!

The other friend got a nice Black Wildebeest and a Gemsbuck the last day after only finding Warthogs all the time.

After the bigger stuff we whent several days for whingshooting. We spent about 1500 shotgunshells on tree guys Cool

If you look carefull at the pic. you can actually se me hit a pigeon! The white "blob" is feathers and the back spot is the pigeon.

Good looking animals! thumb That is an awesome pic of you shooting the pigeon! I've got a very similar pic of me shooting a clay pigeon. Congratulations on the hunt.

Congrats.

I found South African shotshells to be inferior to the US made ones I'm used to. From the same box; some went 'bang', some went 'pop'.

Dave.

We used Europena made Sellier&Bellot shells. I think the only plant i RSA that made shotgunshells was Swartklip and I was told that the plant burned to the ground some years back and they never rebuilt it. Some of the guys from RSA cold probably tell us about this!

The prices riced horrible when the shotgunshells had to be inported..... Last time i was in RSA in 04 I met a oldtimer that really enjoyed pigeons and he bougth a ton of led and made his own pellets when he couldnt buy sheap Swartklip shells Eeker The ton of led lasted him one year...........

Thx. for the coments on the pics! We had so many pigeons in the air that we could take lots of pictures without feeling we lost shot-chanses Big Grin

Here is another couple of pictures of shooter and pigeons! The T-shirt says: Swedish Benchrest Federation Wink Look carefully and you pick up the wad and pellets on the second pic! Note that the leed is quite generous, the birds came in high and fast!!

Regarding ho to contact about a hunt I´m not the right guy to ask..... We have worked our hunts out via benchrest shooting friends down in RSA and not by any safari company.

The thing I could recomend is to contact a company in Pretoria named QPS that deals with benchrest stuff and do some precision gunsmithing. At least one guy in the shop is a PH and also one of the top jacal hunters in RSA. I think he/QPS could arrange a quite good antelope/jacal hunt!

Oh yes BigBullet, we had a great time in RSA!!

The people in benchrest are a friendly crowd, the south africans are no exeption and we got a royal treat during the stay!!!!! We where invited to people all the time and we managed to visit a few and the result was great memories and lots of promises of moose hunting etc. if they ever get to Sweden Smiler

Here is a picture of a after-hunt braai!

We had spent the day wing shooting with the African benchrest champion at his farm. His name is Chris and you can se him at the left in the picture with his braai-kit strapped on and ready to threat us with pork-chops and other goodies!

I´m allready longing to go back..........

Stefan
