Returned yesterday from Limpopo and a week with T.G Safaris for some R&R with Cewe asd his 8x68. I used my .500 J on Zebra, Wildebeest, Blesbock, Impala and Gemsbock. I'll get back on that..
We did hunt baboons north of Louis Trichard though, and had some success. Cewe got four and I got two (should have killed a few more). Not bad for one evening in the blind and one morning on the move. The mango-farmer was very pleased that we got the big chiefs of two groups of baboons terrorizing his orchards..

Cewe in his blind

This is the baboon place.
Beautiful riverbed just north of the Zoutpansberg Conservancy.

Now we are talking - trophy baboons!!!!
They are at the top of my list each time I plan a trip.

No baboons - no go there...

The baboons were defintely a LOT of fun!

The 8x68S really came into it's own when hunting at + 150 meters.

Yes and you handled it really well!
But the real fun is a .500 Jeffery at -100 meters:

These guys shot the first round pretty well. But the second and third....when they knew what was coming!!

When dangerous game isn't what you can get, hunting plains game with a .500 Jeffery can be rewarding. It was a challenge to get closer than 100 m.
A most beautiful zebra, harvested with my .500:

The thing I enjoyed the most was climbing the mountain at Marnies place and glassing Cewes stalk for Red Hartebeest. Better than the movies! I did not catch Cewe an Tino in the act because they're such sly stalkers. But you can see the bull to the right.

I was a beautiful stalk although he didn't get a shot.

Unicorn?

Is it my imagination, or in the photo with the six baboons is the gun right in the one guy's face?

The rifle weighs 4,7 kg empty (10,36 lbs). The rifle will generate some rotation in recoil, due to the old English stock form, so some recoil will be absorbed by the front hand and a smaller portion by the trigger hand. That's my theory anyway. I have no problem shooting it, but the technique requires a firm hold with both hands but mostly on the fore-end, like Tom's hold above.

The muzzle is behind my head, of course..

Well done. On my first trip I turned down oportunities. On my second, i did not turn them down. What a hoot. Nice teeth on the dog.

I've often thought of a full mount to set next to my reading chair. One hand positoned to hold an ash tray when i am burning the crops of my enemies (a al alexander haig and cuban cigars) and the other positioned to hold my favorite scotch glass.

Yeah. A full mount would be something else. My sons and I tried to talk my wife into it, but alas: "I REALLY DON'T THINK SO, DARLING!"

And now I´m back! I´ll see if I can get Boha to post pics of my waterbuck and bushpig -got both this trip and the baboons BUT I missed a jackal again!

The 8x68 is a splendid round but even a little grass will make the bullet change direction -maybe not the best bosveldt round with 187gr bullets but 220 might work better...

The biggest of those baboons are huge!

Nice bag generally and I admire your taste in rifles, too!
