Got a friend who asked me the other day about a 50BMG rilfe.

He wants to get one just to say , "I have a 50BMG rifle"...But he wants to get into one as cheap as possible. So I figured after searching for a day or 2 everything I found ranged from $3500 and up. SO I came to the once place where experts are everywhere.

He doesnt have much preference about the rifle, just wants it to be chambered in 50BMG and that pretty much all he requires.

If he owns an AR there ar a bucnh of options, Ferret is a good inexpensive good shooter. I have one, shoots 3-4 inch groups as far as i can see to shoot. 600-700 yards.

I like that Grizzly, but there is a problem. I'm left-handed so can't use it.

i do believe the grizzly is the cheapest out there without blowing you head off. stay away from hesse or what ever they call themselves now. they are in the 12-1300 range, made out of mild steel etc. really poor quality. i had a griz a few years bad and it was a sound rifle that printed well

Look at the BOHICA on the AR platform. $1300 for the upper and one can get a complete lower for under $200. I have one and it shoots as well as my AR50.

For a more conventional rifle the AR50 and the LAR grizzly are both good solid guns.

Hesse now calls themselves Vulcan and I have heard many horror stories about both but know a guy who owns one with the vulcan name and likes it. It does not shoot as well as the AR50 with HSM factory loads.

Thanks for the information guys...He found him a nice deal on a Serbu 50BMG and he picked it up. He got the rifle with 50 rounds Hornady Match ammo and the rifle has some upgrades for $2000 shipped.

I have a grizzly and only shoot it left handed. It recoils more than any other 50 I have shot. It is also only a two moa gun in my hands with hand loaded amax.

ALS runs about $2300 plus the cost of an ar-15 lower. http://www.50bmg.net/group.asp?grp=6
