Hi Guys, SSk inudustries show a Ruger RSM coverted to the 500 Whisper. They reckon a 750gr at 1050fps or a 650gr up to 1900fps from a 17" barrel. Would a 650gr amax actually expand at a velocity as low as 1900fps? I just wondered if any of you 50BMG shooters have had bullets to expand at extended ranges or are they like pencil...act like solids??
I wonder with such a long projectile if they would penetrate straight on a big tuff game animal like say buffalo. I'm thinking it actually might tumble. Anybody actually tried these projectiles on big game to give actually on hand experience?
think i read in Very High Power magazine a couple years back of a bison Bull shot at little over 1000 yards, It killed it quite fast but the bullet did tumble.
50bmg half inch holes ...... at long range!

As a general rule, any pointed FMJ will tumble after impact. There is too much weight in the rear for stability in a medium denser than air. A bullet that big tumbling will cause massive damage, so expansion is a moot point.
