Love that matte finish. I think i'm going to order a 14" 44mag from him.

Jules, The Matt finish does look nice, but I personally prefer the stainless version due to corrosion resistant nature. Are you getting a barrel that is ported, or a straight barrel? Dave

Fireball Did you call him to make the order? I've written him with a couple of inquiries & haven't got a response. I know sometimes it takes a couple of days to hear back. Rich Jake

quote:Dave, I'm gettin a bull barrel with no brake. 44mag is a pussycat in a 14" barrel. What does his matte stainless look like? I like the stainless finish on the TC factory barrels.

quote:Rich, Just give him a call. He's a great guy to talk to. Make sure when you write your order that you state exactly what you want....To the last detail. Like.....Contender 14" 44mag. full bull barrel with a throat I added that. Super 14 dovetail locks, drilled and tapped for standerd TC scope base only..No front sight, and the dullest matte black finish you have. Hint, On carbine barrels I get them D&T so the rear of the scope mount is 2 1/2" forward the rear of the barrel. BTW, That 44 will be my next order till Mike gets some barrels made.

quote:Jules, I have never seen one of VanHorn's barrels in stainless and didn't mean to infer that I had. What I meant to say was that I like the finish on the stainless TC barrels. Sorry about the confusion. Dave

Fireball I agree. And this from a person that does not like to become involved in politics. I got wrapped into a 7 month wait on a barrel just this past spring. I had to suck hind tit and eat my pride a few times. It was either that or I got threats to send back the parts. Hell of a way build customer loyalty. Never, never, will I ever trust that person again with another project.

quote:Tell you what wildcat51.....AS SOON as they tell me they will just up and send it back....I want it back. There just is NO reason for a wait like that. If they cannot do the work in a reasonable amount of time they should NOT accept the work. 7 months?? way out of line! I guess if you need it and they are the only one to do it you got to suck it up......but I have found that NOT be the case..infact I have used Vanhorn several times just because I Refuse to do that kind of wait...and Dave has ALWAYS did barrel work in three weeks tops for me. His work is Perfect and super quality so I use him alot now days...Not knocking anyone else.. Just wont listen to the griping because I feel three months is long enough! fireball

Fireball My recent dealings with Gary Reeder were postive. It took a good 8 weeks to get my barrel. The price of course was about $100 more than Van Horn. But the price in this case was not the only factor. I wanted a improved wildcat based on a case that I could buy cheap. I was given a choice of barrel blanks, I choose shilen. Custom redding dies that closely matched the chamber. Plus he told me that he performed an accuracy test on the barrel. Time will tell. I will be working up loads in the next few weeks.
