Hey guys. We�ve got a few more Contender barrels that we�ve built using the surplus Wilson blanks that we�ve had kicking around forever. This time they are all blued 6mm�s

Here�s the list:

• 22� 6mm Vartarg Turbo
• 22� 6mm Classic
• 22� 6mm x 30-30 Ack. Imp.
  

*Note � These are all 1-10 twist blued Contender barrels. They are full bull with super 16 dovetail spacing. They are also drilled and tapped for 6-hole scopeAgain, these barrels are priced at $250. They are discounted because we used Wilson blanks rather than Shilen. Otherwise they are identical to our standard barrel.

I was just about to e-mail you as I knew you wanted one. Hope they still have it for you.

Now you can put that 6x47 brass and die set to good use.

Let us know how it shoots. But if it's like I expect, you'll have a hard time finding a load that it doesn't like...

First time I ever got the brass and dies then get the barrel. Will call Jeff this morning.

LD hunter your right but just called Jeff and he is going to rechamber one of the 6tcu to 6X47 for me.

KTS1 your way is the best but I seem to always take the hard way. Getting the barrel then scope, dies brass. Heck one gets more in the accesorys than the barrel. Have a great day.

Jules they are good people. They said they would rechamber the 6TCU because they had sold the 6X47 but I called back this afternoon and took the 6X45 barrel instead. I'll be happy with the 6X45 as I have some good Lapua 223 brass and save the federal match 6X47 brass and dies for another project sometime.

Tommy-When you tire of it and find that 6x47, drop me a line. I may be able to find a "good home" in my safe for that 6x45.

I got a 6x45 from them last year. I haven't worked with it much [mostly barrel brake in] but I plan to this year. I picked up 2 boxes of Sierra 80gr SSP bullets at a closeout price of $5. each at a local gun shop. I'll be working with them and some others with some H335. Bobby tells me it worked very well for him.

I'm now looking for loading data for the 6X45. Most of the powder I have is H-4895, Vit-133 and WW-748. Will try Hornady dies and have several hundred Berger 80gr bullets. I mostly paper punch, but am planning on retiring this year so probably will deer hunt in Mo next year and would use SS pistol bullets. I'm interested in seeing what difference I get with a 22 inch barrel compared to others 15 inch barrel. Also picked up another blue frame today. Have to hide it from child bride.

Hodgdon 26th edition has plenty of data on the 6x45[6x223] If not, you should have no trouble using 6TCU STARTING loads and working up.

I thought I remembered some data in Hodgons book. Will check it out when I go to fancy dog house. (workshop) Wife's daughter says Tommy has a fancy dog house with heat, air and phone. 8X12 shop off the car port. Thanks Jules

Hodgdon's does have the most comprehensive data on the 6x45. But you can do much worse than stick with H335. In this chambering and most of the wildcats based on the .223 case, it's difficult to come up with a powder that offers a better blend of both accuracy and velocity. ANd for a do-it-all bullet that will suffice from vermin to deer, the Sierra 80 grain Single Shot Pistol bullet is just the ticket. It may not be as dramatic on the smaller stuff, but it is extremely reliable and highly predictable in its performance -- almost to the point of being boring. I've used it since it was first introduced and have found little need for anything else.

Bobby when I get the Berger bullets shot up I am planning on going to Sierra in Sedalia Mo and pick up a bunch of 80 gr sierra SS pistol bullets. Have any idea of how much more Vel if any the 22 inch barrel will gain? I will try the H-355. Thanks to everyone for all the good advise. Tommy in SW Mo

Because of the efficiency of the case, you will gain fps -- but it won't be a dramatic increase over a 14-15" barrel. You can probably safely get an 80 grainer to 2850-2875 fps , 2875-2950 with a 75 and 3000 fps with a 70 grain bullet. The Hodgdon's #26 manual has 6x45 data for a 24" barrel, and these seem pretty close to real-world ballistics.

OK, now, the 6x30-30 Ackley Imp. has my attention, but who makes dies...and what do they run?

Is this the same as the 6mm Bullbery IMP? If so, I know Fred has those dies for around $70-75. But I don't know if these are one and the same dimension-wise.

Can anyone point me to info on the 6mm Vartarg Turbo or the Vartarg's in general?
