You really need a .358 JDJ barrel to round out the symptoms.

Mines not for sale, though. I have a touch of the fever also.

What is the parent case for the 358 JDJ? Can it be shot in a Contender frame or Encore?

By the way you are evil. All you are doing is helping the virus take my life over. As the fever gets worse, all I hear is 35 caliber, 35 caliber!!!!! Will this madness ever stop.

Seriously though, I have a family walleye fishing trip to pay for this August. I think if the 35 Herrett is still available after my trip I will probably buy it. I know $155 may not be much to some people but I have a family budget to stay within.

I have one other project to purchase. I am looking for an older 14" 6 groove T/C barrel in 30 Herrett. I plan on having it rechambered to 30-30 AI by David White.

thanks for the reply.

The cure is to buy them all.

Just remember the 10" 30 and 357 Herrett was the biggining of all of the "high performance" rounds.

Herrett and Milek get the credit or blame depending on ones view!

I give them CREDIT . . . I have a 14" 357 Herrett, but may get a 10" just so I can have power in a handier gun.
Of course the 357 bug can ge scratched VERY WELL with a 10" 357 Max. I get 1750 fps with 180 grain bullet with mine. Hope to top that with Lar's cast whenever I get off of my duff and get some run!

Aye, the 357 Herrett is a great old round, but also one that demands caution a little bit moreso than most. Mike Bellm once told me that he thought more frames have been stretched by the 357Herrett than any other round in a Contender, and I can well believe it.

Like TCLouis and others have shared, the 357Max is a fantastic 10" cartridge. Even the 357magnum is loadable to impressive performance levels in the Contender platform, but you don't really start to see good expansion with PSP spitzers until the 357Max, and much moreso with the Herrett, Bellm, JDJ etc rounds.

The 358 Bellm has the virtue of being easy to form using less exopensive commonly available dies, as according to Mike, all you need is a .358 Win FL die set, and Mike recommends the Lyman .358 Win. FL die sets. Also, there is no fire forming required with the 358 Bellm

Another Max fan here, too.

I have .357 Herret, .35 Remington, .357 Mag and .357 Max Contender barrels.

The Max is the most recent barrel, and I have barely used the others since getting it.

Case forming the Herrett is a pain, too.

PS, I have the same virus (obviously), and mine has extended to rifles as well. I have a .35 Whelen and somehow realized I really need a .358 Norma . . . .

BTW, this is a state of normalcy and you were previously diseased, not the other way around...

7-30, I would really like to feel sorry for you but I have a .357 Magnum, a .357 Maximum, a .357-41, two .357-44 B&D's, a .357 Herrett, and a .35 Reminton barrels for my Contender. You do not have a virus, just a slight rash!

7-30 Waters,
Don't know much about 35's except that I have a couple of 357 Magnums--BUT, why would you trade a 7-30 Waters barrel for a 35 caliber barrel???!!! It is your namesake! And, it is truly one of my favorite barrels for my Contender with both cast and jacketed bullets...BCB

I have a .35 Rem. that will be sent to David White to turn into a .358x444 Improved as soon as my .35 Whelen AI dies arrive so I can have them modified by David for the new chamber.

BCB: I still have my trusty Win 94AE carbine in 7-30 Waters. I traded the contender barrel because it was the 14" Hunter model w/muzzle brake and I have severe sinus/allergy problems. The concusion from the muzzle break was too much for the sinus cavities.

I would however like to get a 15" 7-30 AI. Too many other projects in the way. 30-30 AI first.

As for the rest of you who have posted. I guess my sickness is still in early stages and could be cured.

7-30 Waters,
O.K. that explains it!!! I had a chance several years ago to purchase the Model 94 in the Waters cartridge and I thought the price was too high...I could now kick myself a hundred times for being too cheap...BCB

I started with a 35 Remmington in a Contender in 1978 had it rachembered to 358 Bower. I was not yet satisfied with the power and bought a 358 Winchester in a Competitor. I shot it for years and desided it was not quite enough and went to a 358 Norma in the Competitor. This one does everything I want. (225 grn Sierra at 2715) I also like the 35's.
