Does anyone have any experience with the 7mm/08 Encore with a 10" barrel? I think it is safe to assume there might be a bit of muzzleblast - I was wondering about the accuracy. Thanks.

Accurate?? YES......Muzzles Blast???? The likes of which you cannot beleive. For sure not enough barrel length to take advantage of this round.
I see Midway has them on sale CHEAP.......becasue no one would buy them.

The muzzle blast and sound from a 20" Model 7 is bad. From a 10" barrel I'd say it would unbearable.

When you shoot rifle cartridges out of a pistol, you will definitely get plenty of muzzleblast. That's part of the fun. There is something very satisfying about a watermelon sized ball of flame at the end of a short barrel.
I had a Encore carbine in 7mm/08. I was disappointed with the accuracy. With the switch-barrel guns, sometimes you get a sweet combination, sometimes you don't. The only way to know is to try it. If it doesn't work for you, you can trade for a different barrel. Keep trying until you find one (or more) that pleases you. Have fun!

Hey, You Are Easy! Just kiddin'. I, too, saw some 10" barrels for sale and at first was excited by the low price but when I stopped to consider, I decided a 14-15" barrel would be better. I wouldn't go any shorter than 14" on my .30-30m and .30-30 AI so I would want a barrel long enough to take advantage of what the 7-08 has to offer. On the other hand, I know how you adore huge muzzle blasts. When you touch off those short barreled rifle caliber TCs we can hear it clear over here in Arizona (we think it must be thunder).

Mr. RezDog - you need to try my 15" 30-06 Encore if you want a new experience in muzzleblast! You have to admit, that price is tempting, tho'

I'd avoid the 7mm-08 in a 10" tube. The bore is too small and the expansion ratio to slow for this to be an effective combo.

With that much unburnt powder remaining, velocities cannot be very consistant, and thus accuracy will suffer.

Also, even if you buy one and do not like it, your opportunity to get much of your money back is slim.

That is why Midway has these on sale cheap: no one wants them! So a used 7mm-08 in a 10" tube is going to be especially difficult to move save for unbearably low prices, similar to what a 8" 357mag Octagonal Hotshot barrel with choke will go for, a 10" Octagonal 222rem barrel, a 30Herrett in either bull or Oct, or a 44mag w/choke. Look at what Ed Kirkpatrick lists these Contender barrels for [$85.00-$95.00]then deduct what you think he marks them up to make his profit, and that is what you can expect to get for one of these Encore 7mm-08 barrels in a 10" tube on the used market, and that only if you wait a long time for someone to be interested.

I'd say your cash back possibilities on a used used 7mm-08 in a 10" tube are going to be under the $100.00 range, more like $50.00-$75.00 at best. At that price, I could buy one, cut it off at the lug, and do the Bellm stubbed barrel project at a reasonable price to come up with something I would actually want [Big Grin]
