Hobie nailed this one dead center! I have had Federal Agents and several PA law enforcememt agancies tell me the same thing. The federal law restricts rifles and shotguns from being cut down to handgun size, not REGISTERED handguns getting longer barrels. All the Contender frames that I own are registered as handguns with the Commonwealth of PA. That means I can put an barrel over 16 1/4" long on any of my frames with a butt stock OR any barrel length with a pistol grip and be legal. |

| But check with your home state also, especially if you plan to hunt with it. |

Yes, this is correct. There is nothing like actually reading the hunting regs yourself (although you might not be concerned because you might not be hunting with this particular piece and this is was not how you phrased your question). There is at least one jurisdiction that does not allow one to HUNT with a handgun with a barrel exceeding a particular length.
In any case, good shooting! |

| "Handgun—is any pistol or revolver intended to be aimed and fired with one hand, and having a barrel length not exceeding 16 inches." This is New York States definition of a handgun. So it behooves the individual to check your local regs. Rick [ 02-22-2003, 14:02: Message edited by: cricker ] |
