HobieThere is no limit on length, other than practical considerations, in VA or most other states. The problem would only arise if it were a rifle, then the Federal law says 16" is as SHORT as it could be.

LRHA-Shooterpahandgunner;
Hobie nailed this one dead center! I have had Federal Agents and several PA law enforcememt agancies tell me the same thing. The federal law restricts rifles and shotguns from being cut down to handgun size, not REGISTERED handguns getting longer barrels. All the Contender frames that I own are registered as handguns with the Commonwealth of PA. That means I can put an barrel over 16 1/4" long on any of my frames with a butt stock OR any barrel length with a pistol grip and be legal.

casBut check with your home state also, especially if you plan to hunt with it.

cricker"Handgun—is any pistol or revolver intended to be aimed and fired with one hand, and having a barrel length not exceeding 16 inches."
This is New York States definition of a handgun.
So it behooves the individual to check your local regs.

Magnum MikePA does not limit barrel length on a handgun......You must obtain a Sportsman Handgun Permit (from the treasurers office) to hunt with them UNLESS you already have a CCW permit.

PokerplayerI have 2 XP switch barrel's barrels very fom 10" to 24". I shoot hand gun matches up to 18" put action in rifle stock and hunt or shoot rifle matches with longer barrels.
