Target would be similar to this....

 -

It would be one shot per fly and the closest overall (of all five shots) to the center of the fly.

MSSmagnum,

Now there is a match I could really get into! I'mm all for it! I say let's do it [Smile]

How many others are interested? Jules, your 8-32X and 222 barrel sound like a good candidate for such a shoot [Big Grin]

OK Mike
You are going to make it difficult on me to compete are you? You know I'll have to upgrade on my equipment to keep playing these games! Not fair. I don't think that I could even see a target like that at those distances. You are going to make me buy a 10x or more scope. Ok, ok just remember that I'm going to blame my new purchases on you & these matches. [Big Grin]

So is there going to be a limit on # of words for excuses and arrows. Or do we add that on another sheet of paper. [Big Grin]

Too funny,

I love the target! [Smile]
Is everything at 100 yards? 200?
I just did some loading for my 284, so at least I have ammo to shoot now.

P.S. What is the size of the flys?

Yes, if you could give us a distance between two of the flys, that would help me to know if they are printing out the proper size [Big Grin]

I am thinkin that we could have 3 classes for the 2nd target.

Classes
-------
22lr or mag with 4x scope @ 50 yards
100 yard any handgun/scope
200 yard any handgun/scope

Your thoughts?

MSSmagnum,

Now I like that Idea as well! BTW, I also like the new and improved fly target!

Regarding the SCOPE prize, well, how about I order one for the winner [winners expense] at my best wholesale? I'll pay the S&W on both ends.

Mike,

Were you really concerned with accuracy, you'd drop the idea of those puny 3-12 Burris IER's and go for a handgun mounted Leupold 6.5-20 or 8-25 Rifle scope [Big Grin]

Will have to take it off to mount on the 6x50rBellm until the BSA 8-32 Mildot arrives... Please don't make fun of me. I cry easily.

MSSmagnum,

OK, I'm confused.

Are we shooting the 5 flies, or the 30 flies, or our pick?

When can we down load the targets?

When does the match start, and end?

I think this is what we are currently working out [Smile]

My vote is for simplicity and to shoot the "five flys" targets at 50-100-200 yards, my primary interests being the 100-200 yard shoots, as I do not have a scope small enough on a 22lr to compete in the 50-22lr-4x scope shoot. Make the 50yard shoot a 6x scope on a 22lr limitation and I am in :-)

I don't have a 22lr handgun except my Smith model 41 and it doesn't have a scope on it.
I'm not much interested in 50 yard shooting but, if you keep the distance can you use a centerfire and turn down your variable scope?

I gotta tell ya all...this shoot looks mighty fun! I'm with Sean though as my .22LR Contender has a 6-24 on it so best (lowest) I could go is 6x so I would favor the option of allowing a variable scope on "gentlemen's honor" that it would be kept under a predetermined value.

Regarding the use of centerfire rounds in a category designed to be .22LR I think that might be a bit of an advantage. Granted, I have a Bullberry .22LR match that I know will stay between .5-.75" @ 100yds, but I think better match bullets make it possible for smaller groups from a reloaded round. This is just my input and I may not even be able to shoot the match depending upon the time frame that is/was determined.

B_Koes,
I don't know about everyone else, but when I mentioned the possibility of centerfire cartridges @ 50 yards I wasn't thinking about a small case capacity 22 centerfire. I do have a 22-250 Ackley Improved that I haven't even shot yet, so that is surely not in the running.
For me the smallest cartridge I would shoot is a 260 Remington. But I would likely use my 284 XP for everything if allowed.
Whatever is decided is fine with me. This is just my preference since I don't have a 22lr barrel, specialty handgun.

I understand XPHunter. I'm just not sure it is a reasonable expectation to expect a .22LR to compete against a centerfire round. Like I said, I know that a good .22LR can be darn accurate, but I think it is at a distict disadvantage because of external influences (ie wind gusts) mostly because of it's lower velocities and BC's for those blunt round nose bullets. I'm not trying to specifically keep you out of the running, just to voice what I consider a bit of a "mismatch". Frankly, I don't care what is decided because it looks like it might be fun to shoot the target and find out how everyone else did as well.

Some thoughts on this proposed match. I have shot in several fly matches over the years, must admit it was with a 22 rimfire gun at 25 and 50 yds. I must say it ain't easy with the highest power scope you can get. The flies look easy-They aren't! Personaly I say use the most power that you can get at any range. One other thing FYI the 5 fly target is the hardest one to use Not sure as to why but it is! So let the good shots fly( pun intended) [Wink] [Razz]

Hey, we can do it that way if you like! I was thinking the 50yard match should be limited to 22lr, and 6x is not going to bother me too much, but of course if it is any scope goes, then I am that much happier as I fully believe in using all the "x" one can get on a barrel!

If we limit it to 6x, I might use something like this:

B_Koes,
I think we are on the same page. I know you are not trying to exclude me. In fact, I'm not even sure I will have the time to shoot in the midst of this move. Whether I compete or not I do want to hear how everyone did. Personally, I have never shot at fly target before. Looks like fun to me.

I think I should clarify a statemnt I made in my previous post about the fly targets. When I said that the 5 fly target was hard to shoot, I was referring to the one I posted on The Single Shot Forum in the photo gallery not the one that MSS has at the top of the page. I has something to do with the different angle that the fly sit at that seems to through your shots off. It sure is a lot of fun and frustration to shoot well at this one. I hope this doesn't confuse anyone, just trying to make sure everyone knows what they are geting into.

Hey Mike,

Now there is an interesting target as well! Whatever fly target you guys decide upon is fine with me [Big Grin]

Can we agree to allow for at least a 6x at the 50 yard targets? I think there are a few of us for whom this would be the lowest power scope that we have, and it would enable us to compete at this distance [Smile]

Sean,

Unless someone protests, i am for a 6x limit on the 50 yard 22 rimfire match....

Not sure which target to use, i believe that the 30 fly target would be the easiest to score....

EDIT: What scope is that on the 10"er above?
