But, like it or not, we are judged by our appearance. Which is the entire point of the post. You want to open carry, do it responsibly. Btw, I never knew a backwoods red neck hick who could be offended by calling him such. Every one that I know wear it as a badge of honor! You sure you are 100% BWRNH? All in fun Jeff. these are my people too.

In a couple of years you guys in TX well forget what all the fuss was about just like happened in all the other states. The media always yells and screams blood in the street babies well die from fright. Business well ban all. Well you know it hasn't happened.

When the smoke clears some will ban and some will offer discounts. Market differentiation and specialization prevails again. I'm the sort that would offer the discount on a sign in the window for strategic reasons in my post above. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

The law is a nice liberty for Texas to recognize. I think it pertains to the question, in AK, I'm not sure what we're exactly allowed to do and I don't care. Alaska's gun rights are as free as anywhere. Here, its almost a "Bear what you want where you want!" atmosphere. That being true, I feel little to no fear over the loss of my civil liberties and so feel no inclination to make a statement with open carry, concealed, a bumper sticker, flag or t shirt. The Queers need their rainbows, the Christians their fish sign, nationally, NRA members, (as am I,) needed Charlton Heston's "Cold Dead Hands" but here in AK, Open Carry would be no more of a topic than wool sweaters. Over the years as AK has passed new laws or repealed old ones that restricted our 2nd Amendment liberties, there's been little to no fanfare. What few laws we ever had were in effectual and certainly not heeded.

Wendell: I want to make sure I understand. Are you saying that even those with concealed weapons permits cannot take concealed weapons into the show? Thanks!

Larry: The convention center will not be a "gun free zone", there will be lots of firearms but all will be in a designated firearms area to the right of the entrance. There will be signage at the entrance prohibiting open (and concealed) carry inside the exhibit hall, there will be officers at the entrance, as always, that will ask anyone carrying openly to not enter. There will not be metal detectors at the entrance. The signage has always been present regarding prohibition of concealed carry, but recent changes in Texas law have made it stricter if alcohol is present on the premises. Check out the Texas Penal Code and Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code if you have a couple of free hours and see what we have to deal with. Also, I've been told that attendees will not be allowed to bring back packs into the exhibit hall due to "enhanced" security measures, but that might go away. What a crazy world we live in! Exactly why I wanted to carry from the hotel to the show. I have a couple of friends who are pretty tough guys. One is ex special forces. The other does Thai fighting. Four guys tried to rob them two years ago as they were headed to the hotel. Didn't work out too well for the would be robbers. If they tried that on me, I would get my ass beat or worse.

As another PSA, there are two signs required to prohibit both OC and CC. They are similar, but not the same, and if someone has the one prohibiting OC, it does not prohibit CC, just as the one prohibiting CC does not prohibit OC. The size and wording is very specific for both. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. I for one will not open carry most of the time! I have had a CHL issued three months before it was even legal to use the license when it was first passed back in the 1990s. I have always carried a handgun in my car when traveling in Texas, which has always been legal. My trucks and Jeeps have always had a rifle and shotgun in the racks in plain sight, which has also always been legal in Texas. Needless to say I’m pro gun, and always have a gun at a close by place simply for an insurance policy against illegal aggression. When I first got my concealed carry permit, I asked the instructor what was the reason for the permit having to be concealed and not just a carry permit. The instructor told me that the main reason was to avoid a bad guy walking into a place he intends to rob, only has to look around to see if someone is armed, and that this gives the Perp an advantage by disarming that person first, or simply shooting him. The place I think this new law will be worth having is when jogging on the park trails, or bicycling on the very long trails in city wooded areas where in the last few years people have been robbed and/or raped and dragged into the woods. My opinion is a large handgun in a shoulder holster on the outside of his/her riding or jogging cloths in plain view will be a great deterrent to muggers. Another place where open carry may be a benefit is when walking back to your car in a large shopping center parking lot or high-rise parking buildings where even if carrying concealed, the handgun can be carried openly in one’s hand for the walk to one’s car. The law is not offered to just anyone, without some class room time on the pinal code and qualification with the proper use of the handgun, and not only a Texas background check, but a Federal background check as well. If you have anything in your background that is even the least bit dodgy, you will not get a permit in Texas. Legally armed citizens makes for a very polite society! .................................................................... ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

here's some good info on signage http://www.gunwatch.blogspot.c...ext-required-to.html When Texas passed the shall issue concealed carry law in 1995, part of the deal concerned how people would be notified that a business did not allow concealed carry on the premises. A compromise was worked out that an entity that chose not to allow concealed carry on its premises was required to post a sign on all entrances, clearly showing people entering, that concealed carry was not allowed. The sign had to be large and highly visible, in both English and Spanish. The letters had to be at least one inch tall. An example of the "30.06" sign is shown below. 30.06 comes from the statute that requires the sign. It takes up about one half of a door space.

Has owners of a restaurant we respect your right to cc. i cc myself but when people open carry in our place it seems that every dick and mary goes to my wife a tells her they are not comfortable with some one there with a gun on their side especially with their family there. some don't have any idea what the law is and say they are going to call the cops.its just easier to post no open carry. cc all you want just don't show it in our place.

Because he is in the restaurant business, not the education business, and losing customers, for no real gain, is poor business practice. I don't understand why anyone would want to open carry in a public establishment with many of the unknowing public around. What are you gaining, what are gun owners losing? Especially when you can just as easily carry concealed, unless you think you need a Smith 500 for personal protection in public. The whole damn thing is just plain stupid on gun owner's parts, EXCEPT it allows for the accidental display of a CC with no repercussions. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. Open carry Texas style Pictures and rest of the story at link http://www.gunwatch.blogspot.c...arry-texas-2016.html After years of work, political activism, protests and educational open carry marches, Texas now has licensed open carry. If you have a carry license, you can carry your holstered pistol in most public spaces in Texas. On this first day of licensed open carry, I celebrated by going doing a little open carry. I started with the library in Benbrook, because I have been spending some time working there. They have very good Internet connectivity, and the place that I am visiting does not. They were not open on the First, a holiday, so I contented myself with carrying outside

All the problems the have been accredited to open carry has not happen in the other states where it is legal. Those naysayers those, gnashing of teeth, blood in the streets types. Women, children and wimpy men running and hiding in fear of an openly carried hand gun. Soon learn that life goes on and none of the problems that they said would happen don't happen. But then some people are content to always ride in the back of the bus. Open carrying is like a lot of things the more one does it the easier it becomes. Start slow like the next time you get out to pump gas open carry after you survive that walk in and buy a cup of coffee. It is really fairly easy.

Because it is not illegal. You can carry in the light of day. If you're feel that you should hide from the rubes than you are the one with the issue. If you are a dumbass carring a rifle down mainstreet and its not against the law to be a dumbass than who is the one with the problem. Same thing with a handgun on a belt. If someone is afraid because oh my god he has a gun in public than they need to be a little less of a pussy and get used to it. As to the whole tactical advantage bullshit, most of the instructors saying that heard it from somebody else and would probably piss themselves in action. A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work.

I had a funny "encounter". I didn't really open carry, but I did strap it on and went into the driveway to clean out my truck. I heard a child's voice say "I saw a gun!" "Daddy, that guy has a gun!" I think he was just surprised. When I looked up, they were running off, but I really think they may have been out for a jog anyway. Sure. Lots of people jog with 3 and 4 year old kids. Was it the fact that I was wearing chaps and a holster. And nothing else? Who knows. Like you said. Pussies. Get used to it.

Watched the evening news in Houston yesterday. A local restaurant owner (BBQ) had a big sign out front advertising a 10% discount to any customer that was practicing open carry. He said, in the interview, that he thought it was a good idea that people be seen as armed and prepared to defend themselves in these lawless times. He had plenty of customers there, many of them visibly packing. I found it interesting that he was a black man. The media usually searches out the folks that will say the politically correct thing. This guy had the balls to back up his words with positive action. I hope more folks will follow his lead! DRSS(We Band of Bubba's Div.) N.R.A (Life) T.S.R.A (Life) D.S.C.

How are they "acting like fools" by simply exercising their right? Most of the rest of the nation has had open carry for a long time...get over it. Its a non issue. We have had open carry for 150+ years, I've seen maybe 2 or 3 news stories on it in my whole life...like I said it's not an issue and in a few years you will barely notice.

Well, let me give you one small example. A group of the open carry nuts (not the many gun owners who responsibly supported it, as, for example, the political arm of Texas State Rifle Assoc.) barged into a Texas legislator's office who was opposed to the OC bill. They were all or mostly all carrying ARs, etc. that is, long guns which were legal. They made the news, and the then OC bill which would have given OC to ALL Texans died right there. That's why we have open carry for only what used to be called concealed carry license holders. That's a prime example of people "exercising their rights" that acted like fools. There are plenty more. I've been to Wisconsin many times over the years and have NEVER seen anyone open carrying that wasn't a LEO. Perhaps the good people of Wis. realize there is a time and a place for everything. Just like in Wis. "in a few years you will barely notice" is that after the current uproar has died down, most people with a LTC will carry concealed, just like they did before. The ones with good sense, anyway. In Texas, we've had the right to OC longarms ever since we were a Republic AFAIK, and, in my whole life here, over 60 years, I've NEVER seen a group of people come into a restaurant carrying a selection of long guns. Why not? If I'm worried about being assaulted or shot by someone, I'd rather have a rifle or shotgun in almost every circumstance. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. An accidental exposing of a legally concealed firearm has never been an offence! Thought he would like some free advertising. For those who would like to patronize his business. There is no threat in my previous statement. A business owner should stand by his convictions. H450-400, It has always been legal to OC a handgun in Texas while on your own property, or while hunting, and they may do just that but when they go into town for supplies of the eat in a restaurant they leave there hand gun in their car or if having a CHL license simply conceal the handgun. I think what you will see in the near future even with the LTC privilege is that most will simply cover their handguns when in town even in hunting areas in Texas. I have always had a CHL since three months before the license became legal in Sept of 1995. However I always had a handgun in my vehicle and carried it open when hunting out side of towns, or on my own property. That was legal in Texas even before the CHL license came about. Long guns have always been legal anywhere in Texas, but only a few carried those simply to make a point, as stated above by a few, those guys got a little abusive at times which did not help our cause IMO! The place for open carry in the city IMO, is when on the many jogging trails or bicycling through the woods inside cities where many muggings and rapes have been committed. In town while shopping, or in restaurants My handgun will be concealed, but make no mistake it will be within reach if needed. I simply do not see a good reason to give a criminal the privilege of knowing I am armed till he makes it clear that he NEEDS to know it! ...................................................................................... ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

My apartment complex put up 30.06 and 30.07 signs on the vehicle gates yesterday. Obviously, they own the property and can do so. However, as a lessee, I don't see how my rights can be constricted as per the language required on the signs. Yes, I'm an attorney, but haven't yet researched this situation. I don't plan to open carry, but there have been times I've concealed while walking my dog at night. I meant to be DSC Member...bad typing skills. Marcus Cady DRSS

Mr Cady, the question to look up would be renter's rights. In most places, the renter is granted the same rights of domicile. In some states this extends to hotels. Basically, as long as it is legal you can do it. Of course, there are restrictions to altering the property. A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work.
