Once you have cleared immigration you will proceed to the luggage arrival area.
Your checked bags will arrive on a specified carousel but your firearms - presuming your carrier has tagged them as such - will be waiting for you to uplift from the restricted luggage counter. Any staff will direct to this point.
You will need to show the appropriate luggage tag receipt to recover your relative bags and perhaps some ID.
From this point you will proceed to the customs/biosecurity gates where your declaration as a firearm carrier will have you directed to a specific counter where your firearms will be inspected and your paperwork processed.
Usually this is a pleasant and hassle free process.
Once cleared from customs you will exit into the arrival greeting area and you’re free to move along at will.
I hope your experience is swift and hassle free.

Larry:

Are you flying directly from Sydney to Darwin? You need to be according to my outfitter. I know others who had problems thinking they could spend a few days in Sydney then fly to Darwin. Same goes for the exit.

Barry said you can stay but you need to have guns secured. There are agencies to do this cannot leave them in hotel room alone

The biggest problem is leaving. Do yourself a favor. Go to Border Force the night before to start the process. If you don’t, expect hours the day of departure due to the line of people seeking tax refunds. The entire process is very time consuming. The people are not rude or even inefficient. The process itself is just ridiculous.

In addition, there can be interruptions for emergencies. While I was there, an Arab guy walked in. The look on his face said it all. He had problem. Bottom line is that he was an international transit passenger. Some genius had give him the wrong directions. He exited the secured area. He had a real problem. They stopped to help him as well they should have.

Coincidentally, we found a service to help us get through everything quickly. Guess who I happened to bump into? Yup, the Arab guy. He knew he was screwed if they had not helped him. He was most appreciative. I think it says something positive about the border force people .
