Considering a stag hunt in either Argentina or New Zealand for around Easter of next year. Argentina seems to have quite a reputation of difficulty, delays and expense in getting trophies home. How is the experience doing the same from NZ to the USA. Would be skulls and racks only, no capes.

I don't think you need any paper work from our end. Its only if you need something at your import end. Some country require proof its hunted legally. You can get a certificate from the DEPT of Conservation, but it might pay to check up on time scales etc, as they will likely have a 20 day application time or such. But I recently had a freind take their Tahr and chamois heads home too the US with no certs, and they had no problem.

Kevin, some years back I brought a stag rack home in my luggage. I split the skull plate and wrapped the antlers together. I talked to the usf&ws before I tried it. I had to meet with them at LAX when I came back to the states. The skull plate was clean and they had no problem with it. All points had to be wrapped for protection or the airline wouldn’t accept it.

So you had it fully boiled out while there and just sawn down the middle? Did you just glue it back together?

I hunted Argentina in 2019 and had 2 stags shipped back. It wasn't really all that bad, but the pricing was similar to what Africa was at the time. I used a broker and I think all in, delivered to my taxidermist was $2,000. Now flying back with the horns from NZ sounds better, but Argentina and NZ are two totally different experiences.
