I'm not from Australia so I don't really have a dog in this fight but I carry a 444 marlin for heavy scrub and big timber hunting where I live. Always gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling with a 265 grain hornady bullet and enough Reloder 7 powder to fill the 30-06 length but fatter width shell. Mine is a lever but you can buy them in bolt action. It will make a deep and lasting impression on anything here so it should be good for Oz. Gerry O' (aka Bellhender) Prince George B.C. Canada

I would pick either the 35 whelan or 9.3 x 62,or you could go a Marlin 1895 in 444 or 45/70.

Probably the original would have been the .375/303 With 220 gr Taipans probably a devastating pig killer, and lots of cartridges in a SMLE too.

Carl Scholtz Gunshop in Brissie has a reamer to do 338'06,I was talking to the owner and he got the gear to do one for himself,"one of these days". I went down to Rebel Gunworks today and checked out their CZ's,here is what I found; .375 H&H=9.3lbs 9.3x62 =7.3lbs Picked up a Woodleigh Bullets sheet while I was there.
