A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Poor little pussy. He didn't want to die,
Now that gun has sent him to that cream can in the sky.
"He wasn't a bad bastard. He never ate a bird."
But the bush around is silent.
And no bird song can be heard!

"Killing cats is cruel!"
The kind old lady cries
But we'll never get our birds back
Till every moggie dies!

LOL, if cats could live off birds the Fiordland national park would be full of them.
Cats are purpose built rodent hunters. Thats why the feral ones live on the outskirts of towns and farms and dont colonise wilderness areas - they stay near people because thats where large numbers of rats and mice live.
The only wild cats I have met in a national park have both been living around a hut, plainly living off mice; and they were only a few K's up open land from a nearby raad.

Shooting house cats is not a worthwhile activity, not in NZ anyway.Even if they are found in the bush, we need them to eat rats, which do eat birds eggs.
And its a very bad look for the non shooting public to see photos of it.

Not unusual to see feral cats in wilderness areas. Doesn't have to be only national parks. I wouldn't say any place I've seen them is thick with cats but my sightings were daylight so I'm sure more would reveal themselves during the hours of darkness.
They eat more widely than just birds. I have seen a feral cat stalking a rabbit.
I would shoot every feral I could but they are always too quick for me.

Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

Carlsen Highway, ever heard of the Stephens Island Wren? Tibbles, the lighthouse keepers cat, exterminated the species within weeks of arriving on the island.
While some feral cats kill more mice than birds they also kill a lot of lizards and Wetas. Certainly we should be very careful how we post on social media.
