I’m sure everyone in Australia will now feel so much safer from those nasty criminals.

Now, if only they can ban cricket bats and nail clippers, too.

Unless I'm mistaken it appears NZ has come to its senses? Read an article that described that prior commie woman's term as "the nadir of the idea that intentions are more important than outcomes."

The same insanity perfectly describes the left in the USA. I hope the whole world catches on and scuttles the insane progressive horseshit.

Yes. But....

The new govt has been left with some very tough decisions. Ones that will make them unpopular. Austerity etc.

The old govt sans Jacinda are still making up the opposition, and they are not coming up with any new ideas or signalling they have modified their views. In fact they are doing and saying nothing. Just waiting for the hard times they created to hit and make the govt thats trying to fix things unpopular.

I fear we will see the insanity again to some level.

Typical gumbyment response...reacting to the tool ie. knife, gun, whatever instead of the problem...in this case, the little shits that get away with everything because the courts won't touch them...

Be interesting to see some Aussies comment. I suspect it's probably another symptom, like other places, of immigration without support that integrates newcomers into the community. And like elsewhere the problem becomes the tool, rather than the much harder to fix, societal issue.

Hit the nail on the head mate. Most Aussies are scratching their heads over this one.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

That’s what happens when citizens are willfully denied the right and ability to defend themselves against criminal attack.

Shameful and ridiculous, both.

I support the ban, at least without some sort of licence that could be issued to people with reasonable purpose.

Sometimes the criminal zeitgeist focuses on certain weapons, such as the 'assault rifles' that tend to be the default choice in shoot'em-up computer games.

John Howard (a polly I dislike) just happened to take out most of them with his unfair 1996 laws. However, we've not had a single 'mass murder' of the Port Arthur/common-American type since that time. Sgt York had proved one does not need any kind of self-loader to kill lots of people, but fortunately the crazies have not focused on the long-throw M17 so far Wink

Somehow, machetes had, however, gained some mystique in the gang world - and we know that mentally deficient copycats can't help themselves (it seems murders actually rose at the publicity surrounding capital punishment, when we used to hang people).

As the French man said while witnessing a British hanging "Pour encourages les autres" (scuse my French)
