Got this fella up a small creek, saw my first Townsville croc as well, only a small one about 2 meters or so.

What do you guys call salmon down there? That doesn't look like any salmon I'm familiar with.

We do have Atlantic salmon that were introduced down in the southern states. This is a blue salmon which is a tropical saltwater fish. We also have the Threadfin salmon which looks similar but has long thready finny thingys that it uses to hunt with in murky water.

No worries mate, that's why we're here tu2

A lot of our fish were named after northern hemisphere species due to a passing resemblance. Our Whiting and Bream for example.

Now that "we" have that fish name thing straightened out, what is a Townsville Croc?

What kind of gear does one use to catch them? The Salmon, not the croc!

When I first got here in Febuary, a 5 meter croc was caught on the Strand. The Strand is the busy walk way/swimming area/beach area of Townsville! Eeker

A croc was captured way further south in Brisbane in the early 1900`s.

Anyway heres is a older dated story about a woman that was good at the trade of shooting crocs.

Tony, did you bust that bad boy with a fly, bait, lure?
That NZ kahawal sounds like the absolute bomb on a fly rod.
Ozhunter, no, no it's those darned Swedes insisted on calling a moose an elg!

Bill the Kahawhai is awesome on the fly. Right now they are turning up in the river mouths and all over the ocean. They will get up to 10 ib and fight like stink and there can be thousands in a school. Will post some pics if I can find some.

How do you guys eat the kahawhai Shanks? Over here they don't have a good rep as a table fish.

Well I dont mind a feed of Kahawhai straight out of the ocean if its what Ive caught, but usually if I have snapper I will eat that fresh and smoke the kahawhai.
Its an oily fish and good for you and a touch underrated in my opinion. Makes great kebabs as well.
