Tough conditions, lots of wind and the rain hit last night into this morning. I bumped a big bodied chital stag out of his bed but couldn't get a shot. He had wonky antlers. I waited 10 minutes and walked to the other side of the spur and think I bumped him again! This time I didn't see him as he was in thick lantana. This morning was spent helping the owner ear tag and vaccinate some calf's

Came home with heavy cold Frowner. Still it was good to get out.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Thursday night I got home from 5 days away but managed only 1.5 actual hunting days due to frequent rain. Wed afternoon I bumped a deer in solid cover. It stuck its head and neck up about 20 yds away. I shof offhand and missed ! It ran, closer to me, passing about 10 yds away. My second shot also missed ! Very annoyed with myself. I think my hunting mojo is AWOL presently.
But, like you say Tony, getting out there is good stuff.

Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

In the Cotswolds UK. Going out every evening with my old shooting mate. He is 80 now and hadn't shot a deer for years. Too heavy for him. The Roe rut is on. We are seeing lovely young bucks every evening coming to my call up to a few feet away. So far he has shot two. A skinny 6 pointer and a very lame ancient buck with a nice even 3 points on one side and two long separate spikes sticking up on the other.
Yesterday morning in the Forest of Dean I saw a very large Wild Boar busy feeding on blackberries. No gun so I filmed the stalk. I planned on trying to kick him somewhere painful. Got within 10m and he started to look very large indeed. Chickened out and just said "Hello piggy" . Fortunately he went the other way. They can give you a nasty nip!
Off to Nyakasanga in the Zambesi Valley on Friday. Tuskless and buffalo. My left leg isn't working well so I'm not optimistic.
