I'm a little over the whole "I didn't win so I'll just sit here and have a cry" thing.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

The fencer could not leave the mat until the judges acknowleded her complaint. She was following the rules provided for filing a complaint. I think she cried more from the stress of having to stay out there than from the judges error against her that cost her the match.

I'm happy to mention the medal count.

Aust Golds 4
NZ Golds 3

Big Grin

Seriously, NZ have done well and we haven't done nearly as well as expected, hoped or
built up for. i hope we don't set expectations so high next time.

I also think we should have seen it coming with so many big guns from our team missing who individually picked up a fair few of our Gold's in the past.

Agree re the fencer, the judges cost her the match.

Agree a medal worth wearing but a totally different ball game - apart from the fact you are more likely to be dead !!!

And as Gryph said, a lot of people around the world aspire to be like their Olympic heroes.
Just look at Team GB.

Bullshit....If she was my kid crying about a silver I'd be embarrased. I'd also tell her to wake up to her self and pull her head in! She got second in an olympic final and she blubbers. She should of held her head up high and carried on with more dignity, its called sportsmanship.

I know the context it was written in Gryph. It was just a normal gryphon responce to something Matt wrote. You can understand my mistake, you see I was talking about crying and so was Matt. So you were just having a shot at Matt for calling some dumb arses who carried on like spoilt 8 years olds dumb arses. I stand corrected.

Matt who?

Ah the one with the incredibly disrespectful response to a nations athletes as 'dumb arse swimmers'

BTW they do more than the 'dumb arse shooters'

And by the way this normal "gryphon response", can I not voice my opinion without you jumping in? Let MG look after himself eh!

I understand the context of the thread, but really this is the respect we have for our nations athletes "bumb arsees". The effort and sacrifice they make to achieve success at the worlds most prestigious sporting event should be commended regardless of outcome.

Crying is nothing more than a powerfully emotion, I don't see anyone crticing an athlete who just won gold and cried after the event.

A little respect lads, all our athletes are wearing our colors.

Thanks Bakes - there's no need to respond to the troll-meister.

Rigby350 - I dont think some of the swimmers have behaved in an appropriate manner - a manner befitting someone who is representing a country that heavily subsidises their endeavours. I think they are dumb-arses for their ongoing lousy behaviour - that is my opinion. I dont think we should automatically idolise these people. Take a look at the behaviour of various members of the Aust swim team over the last 4-5 years...

I wasnt referring to people literally crying... just a few of the more well known swimmers who didnt perform to their expectations and had a sook about it.

Tend to agree Matt.

Can't remember so many from our teams from the past bursting into tears and having a bit of a sook when they got Silver.

Why must we respect a person who swims for a living just because they are swimming under our flag? I'd rather respect the Victor Changs or the Fred Hollows of Australia. Or the men and women who put on the uniform of this country every day.
Now with the olympics I'm happy for the person when someone gets a medal but I don't leap out of my chair and gush with "respect".

There's a few in our Olympic squad who need to have a hard look at themselves.....and stop believing their own publicity.

Gold Medal performance in firestarting Lads.... somebody forgot to tell the Kiwis its not a formal event tho.
