Traveling from Sydney to Melbourne,is it worth the drive?? Is there much to see?? Is there a train?? or should i just fly.

Depends on the time you have, if you are just going to drive down the Hume highway you might as well fly,
If you have a day or two up your sleeve you could go via Canberra and the Snowy Mountains, and pick up the Hume at Albury, check out Elks Gunshop there then detour to Mount Buffalo and some winerys then back out to the Hume, don't know what is between there & Melbourne to see.

Yes it is worth the trip, the first time..

The Hume Highway, itself, is not particularly exciting and there isn't a great deal to see except lots of Australian countryside, about the only highlight is driving through the township of Holbrook and finding an Oberon class submarine stuck in the local park - hundreds of kilometres from the sea!

If you had a couple of spare days, you could also detour through Mansfield and hunt sambar with one of the local guides!

depends when you are going....temps this week are around 45c (110f plus) and thus any contemplated side trips into the bush would be fraught with danger fire wise!

Cooler months you could track through sambar country for hundreds and hundreds of miles off the main drag..on the main drag its as boring as any other highway yet many OS visitors enjoy the ever changing landscape.

Whatever floats your boat.

And in Melbourne`s case those h/way`s take you into the best and I mean best Sambar hunting in the world......

Nothing wrong there sport if you like to really hunt.

130 max speed now and the new rule wouldn't appear to have done shit to the road toll... Go figure

If you have the time, you can travel from Sydney via the Aus high country (Snowy Mt Hwy, Thredbo Village, Corryong and Omeo Hwy).
Or down the coast line (Princes Hwy).

I came through the park from Thredbo a couple of months ago,a keen eye will soon spot the rubs on the roadside trees.Many deer in the park spill out onto the legal edges all through out that region,a shame we cant hunt the bloody joint.
