I am interested in your opinions about the chambering/cal best suited for a double rifle in Australia. Does it change with where you hunt? Is a sxs better or not than an o/u. Does anyone believe there not of much relevance to Aust given the nature of our hunting?

Depends on what game you want to hunt ,I have a .470NE double which is great for Water Buffalo and scrub bull you can get doubles in medium calibres with scopes for Deer or pigs. You can try www.nitroexpress.com for more info and contact the Big Game Rifle Club SSAA they use a lot of doubles.

If I could have a double my preference in Australia would be for a 9.3x74R. I'd chase Sambar with it for a a bit of fun. If the Baikal rep gets his gear together and imports the Baikal MP221 in 45/70, I'd buy one in a heart-beat. I dont see any "need" other than its novelty value and fun. Personally I'd not by a double in a "small caliber", pretty much useless I feel, must be .35 and above.
Cheers...
