I´m allways thinking about a new target rifle, chambered between the .223 and the .308.
The most ranges here are 100m long and a few 300m. So I want to choose a round, fitted for this ranges. I´m dreamed to shoot "long range", but this is nearly impossible in Germany.

"Best" target round for ranges between 100m and 300m. What would you choose?

Choices:
6mm PPC 1-8"
6mm Norma BR 1-8"
6mm XC

 

6mmBR with a twist suitable for the heavier bullets. Typical 6mmBR bullets are in the 68-70 grain range (same as the PPC). The heavier bullets are around 107 grains.

6ppc with a 14 twist. This one holds many world records.

6PPC with 14 twist to 300 Meters. Nothing else is close.

If you will be shooting more 300 than shorter ranges, you'd do better with the 6BR Norma, in a 1/14 than the PPC. if vice versa, then the PPC rules the roost if you judge by the number of folks using it. There are not that many 300 yard/meter events in the USA though. It may be that a lot of people who try the 6BR norma yield to the temptation to load a much heavier bullet than in the PPC. That's what was recommended when I decided to try the 6BRN.

I've tried the same weight of bullet in both my 6BR and my PPC (same 1/14 twist) and had slightly better luck at the longer range with the 6BRN. Finding the 300 yard/meter events is the thing stops me getting real excited about it.

If you set up your bench on the Western edge of Baden Baden and shoot westbound would you still be shooting IN Germany?

up to 300 metres (yards) 6ppc 1 in 14 shooting 69 grians "things"

300-600 and probably beyond wihtout much wind 6BR 1 in 8 throwing 105 grains "things"

600+ 6.5 - 284

just look at the results of competitions around the world .........

even in places like Japan, New Zealand and South Africa

These guys specialise in 6mm.
