I have not but know a few who have. Lots and lots of sanding. When you finish sanding you start sanding some more. Then repeat the process. When you are done with that you start sanding.

Just my opine here, but if you go building a kit plane, your friends will never get to see you unless we come up and hang out in the garage where you'll be tinkering with your project.

Go finance a used plane and enjoy flying and seeing your buddies! Big Grin

I've owned 2 homebuilts, one of them I put a bit of time on, but both were projects started by someone else first.

If I had to do another one (and there is a strong possibility of that happening again) I'd do it the same way- decide on a couple planes you'd like, then start browsing for projects for sale. when you find one show up with cash and a trailer and if the workmanship looks acceptable then start making offers.

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

Looking into it --

these are likely "next" builds for me -- I am looking hard at the bd-4c .. its wider, longer, and taller than the original bd4 --

we shall see --- i just like to build stuff!

Driving back from Montreal last month I can say that some lucky bastard bought himself a nice project...

On a gooseneck trailer behind a late model F-350 Crew cab
was what appeared to be a Complete "Alpha Jet" jet trainer....

In peices.

That being said the performance of something like the turboprop version of the Lancair
evolution looks like it would be a laugh riot...

But before I'd shell out nearly $1million on a KIT I'd go shopping for a used Piper CheyenneII.
