When did he die? Just read an autobiography and thinking I had missed hearing of his death. Perhaps he is still with us. Packy

I had breakfast a couple of times with General Yeager and his young wife, Victoria, a few years back at SCI in Reno. They were staying in the same Comfort Inn that had the early morning buffet breakfast, and he and Victoria just came over and sat down with me and my wife at our table. We engaged in talk about the Convention and other things in general, and I wouldn't have initially known who he was until someone also eating there said 'hello General Yeager' as they walked by. They had driven in from California. We had breakfast the next morning there and sat with them again. We must have looked harmless enough to sit with us. It seems that his old black and gold California license plate on his truck was Bell X-1. For the most part, he seemed to be a down to earth gentleman, but also seemed somewhat wary of strangers. I would guess that comes with being so famous. Big Grin

Cool story. He, Red Adair, Clint Smith and others would hunt at my old club. Unfortunately, I never got to meet Gen, Yeager or Mr. Adair. I did meet Mr. Smith, but that’s another story.

I meant to be DSC Member...bad typing skills.

We must have stayed at the same hotel. Had a few moments with him as well on the elevator, van ride back to the hotel, etc. However, I felt his wife was more of a “handler” than anything. She ran interference on damn near everything I said, wouldn’t allow Yeager to speak for himself. Honestly I thought it was very strange and kinda felt bad for him. At one point in the van she apologized for not being able to invite me to dinner as he was bushed from the show. I never asked, and had no interest in asking. Again, seemed like she was running interference. And don’t ever mention Scott crossfield within earshot.

I got to hang out with crossfield a bit when he kept his plane at JYO and enjoyed every minute. He was a hoot.

General Chuck Yeager is just simply A Great Guy, down to earth and no bluff/blow. He used to come to a Surprise Arizona RV park to visit friends and often would sit with many of the winter residents in the "lodge Room" and just chat. My father -in-law saw him many times over the years. He has been an icon at SCI Conventions and loves to hunt and fish, Alaska and he has participated in the One-Shot Antelope and Deer hunts as well.
Here is a link to his website-

There is contact info there, and many things to buy, many of which he will autograph personally by first name!! Don't wait!!
One of my treasures is a mock-up nose piece of the Bell X-! Autographed by Chuck Yeager!!
It was Bob Hoover, favorite friend and competitor on the challenge to Mach 2...who died last year...
What A Guy!!
Cheers,

Yes, I didn't spend much time talking with her at the breakfast table, but my wife did. When Victoria found out that I was an attorney, she had all kinds of legal questions, and by then I had gone back upstairs to the room for about 15 minutes. When I came down we were ready to leave, but my wife later told me about their conversation. Seemed that the General and Victoria were involved in some litigation-can't recall the details at this time, and she was explaining it to my wife and asking her general legal questions about it. One thing that I thought was funny about our breakfast encounters was that the General kept saying that he couldn't get over how great the breakfast sausages were! Big Grin

Yeager might not be dead, but Crossfield died in an airplane accident that had a lot of those who knew him scratching their heads. A guy I shoot with every Friday morning was an engineer on the X15 project and worked with him.

Forgot to mention that General Yeager is also a member if the SCI Quarter Century Club...that's a few of us "old farts" who have been members for 25 years of unbroken membership... they used to honor us with a special badge and lapel pin, and invite us to the Presidents Cocktail parties each year... used to be a big deal...and a small group of members...declining faster than growing these days!!
Cheers,
