AVEMCO would not pay, the dumb fool didn't tie down the airplane. Now I would like to see the end result. They didn't post that now did they?

When I was stationed at MCAS Beaufort, SC, I was a member of the Aero Club.

One Friday afternoon I had plans to fly down to Florida with the girlfriend of the month and I went over to the club (on the base) and waited a bit until the prior member landed, refueled the 172 I was going to rent and came in and signed back in on a big memo board.

I wrote my name under his, the time of checking it out, etc. and openned the door on the house trailer to walk out to the flight line. The prior pilot was still in the trailer writing in his log book.

As I stood in the door, a S.A.R. Huey came by and the 172 took off just like in the video above. I just shut the door to the trailer, walked back over to the check-out board and erased my name, said to the unsuspecting fellow, "I think you need to look outside." and got into my black 356 SC and drove to Savannah to get my girlfriend instead of flying .

Seemed quite reasonable at the time.

That was some really neat footage thanks for posting it.

Not that unusual, the airplane will fly at 130kts with a light load and 70kt+ winds with the flaps deployed, engines removed and interior stripped. I would be shocked if any large airplane in that condition would not move on the ramp with enough wind. It's happened to B727, B737, B757, B767 and all of the DC9 series of airplanes at some point.

The biggie here IMHO is the engines are removed, so that is 32,000-ish pounds removed from the forward CG.

I was thinking it would make for a fun amusement park ride!

I didn't say I was amazed or even surprised by the footage. I just said it was neat.
