Found a double rifle in America that I want and need to let go something. We can only have 6-7 rifles in Sweden.

Any interest in this from someone, more or less unused. 2 claw mounted zeiss, case, key etc. Some gold inlays. Open for suggestions

He offered me 12k for my rifle at the place where I want the other one. I was thinking 15.

New price on this you don’t want to know

About as fine a rifle as you can have. I hope you get your price. 12k is an insult.

I'm what you call your basic famous.

Hello Anton,

If I am right that rifle cannot be imported into America as it has the Mauser thumb cut and our stupid powers that be classify it as a military weapon!!

Things may have changed but needs looking into. Maybe someone has more recent information.

Cheers,
Arjun

Ok I never heard of that. One of Americas biggest dealer in finer arms gave me a offer but never said anything about that after looking at more photos than this. Maybe he missed it or something has changed.

Yes, there are people who have gotten thumbcut mauser rifles in recently, but the odds are very high that the damn government won't allow it.

Yes, and no.

Yes, a military 98 CAN be imported if it is in original, unmodified, condition.

No, a modified 98 CAN NOT be imported.

By the letter of the law, this H&W (built on a modified 98) would not be granted an import permit.

I import modified 98's all the time. If the rifle carries commercial proof marks, which it does, it can be imported easily.

You have an exquisite rifle that lacks nothing. The few I have seen from H&W were in the $30-50k range. You are giving it away.
I would do everything I can to hold on to it.
Best of luck to you.

Here it is in black and white.

18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(17) and 27 CFR § 478.11. Surplus Military Firearms • A surplus military firearm is any firearm which has ever been possessed by a regular or irregular military force. Surplus military firearms are prohibited from importation under 18 U.S.C. § 925(d)(3); however, § 925(e) authorizes licensed importers (FFL type 08 or 11) to import surplus military rifles and shotguns classified as curios or relics; and handguns classified as curios or relics which meet the sporting criteria. In order to qualify for importation the firearms must be in their original military configuration and cannot have been sporterized. Further, under the AECA, the importation of U.S.-origin surplus military firearms is generally prohibited without retransfer authorization from the Department of State. 27 CFR § 447.57.
