Originally built in 1891 according to the Dallas book, likely as a .450 3&1/4"(charge on buttplate reads 4 drams Curtis & Harvey's #6), rebarreled during the Nitro era by Purdey using Whitworth steel barrels to the .400 Purdey cartridge. The engraving on this rifle is outstanding, Purdey quality throught out. Still carries the Purdey barrel blue though I can rust blue the barrels were you to desire so. The rifling remains strong with a some haze in the grooves forward of the chambers, not real pitting to speak of. Tight and on the face, eveything works as it should, the Jones under lever "snaps" into place with a spring assist. The rifle appears to have had a peep sight on it in the past, now removed beautify repaired with a small piece of walnut inlet and checkered to match, very nice work. This one is ready for the field and comes with 60 rounds of new Bertram brass and a set of RCBS dies. 14950$ more pics at GI#103255561
