I fear that would be called counterfeiting??

Sadly there are quite a few fakes out there too, it takes an educated eye to recognize the difference. Winchester put on some very finite marks in specific places that an educated eye can spot. Serial numbers on the actions relate to date ranges of manufacture, and the 7M/M were manufactures within specific dates....all has to match...

It's called restoration; it's only counterfeiting if you offer it for sale as original. For your collection, it is ok. I didn't know you wanted to sell them, and offer them as original.
You did say it was the logo that you "coveted". No one is trying to fake anything. Just create an example with a new barrel for shooting, and that looks cool.

I had RJ Renner in Reno do a pre 64 model 70 270 win stock for me he called it slenderizing. Samr guy that did Rays rugger 77. Mine looks like a English stocker used old factory stock. If a guy wanted the slickest little fast handling 7x57 pre 64 model 70. Put a Douglas 7x57 barrel on it. You will have the nicest user model 70 in any Naber hood you are in. My FW started out as a 30/06 Ron Kesselring rebareld it in 1982. Douglad FW Barrel just under 6 1/2 pound with out scope

That would be a clone, I personally wouldn't have an issue with it but this gentleman is dead set on an original and in good taste.

Which he must be prepared to pay several $K for. There are no "hunting grades" out there. Collectors pay too much.

Try Rock Island Auctions; the last one they had sold for $10.9K and a Super Grade before that went for $23K.

I’ve got a ‘new’ M70 in 7x57 if you want a shooter. Supergrade stock.

Bought a few years ago and it’s been in the safe since.

Thanks Mark!!
Way over priced for a Biesen, which I like very much!!
George Caswell has 2 Biesens, and a Dale Goens listed for about custom market prices...but that is about what an original pre-64 might cost!! Steve Barnett has a Jerry Fisher as well, more over priced!!
Now I know where all of the Ruger 77s and No.1s are hiding. Not a bad alternative!!

I am pleased to report that BIEBS PMd me with a lead to Gun Broker and a pre-64 Mod 70 rebarreled to 7x57, Douglas barrel and excellent Featherweight donor rifle!! I was the successful bidder in the last minutes of the auction... and a price one would pay for a nice 30-06... let alone a Featherweight!!

Thank you so much BIEBS!! As he said "the hunt is the beat part of finding a new gun!!"

BIEBS IS A "GOOD GUY!!"

Durys in San Antonio had the gun. Top shop. It is headed to my gunsmith who will put a scope on it... thinking Lyman Alaskan, he has a Bausch and Lomb BALVAR 8 with Mod 70 bases... I have a Leupold VX-3 2.5 to 8....??

I am still waiting for DUCKEAR'S photos. Interested in the later Super Grades too!!

Thanks for everyones help and suggestions!! Now for an Antelope this Fall!!

CheerZ,
