Pretty soon you’re going to own all of them! rotflmo

Matt
FISH!!

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

I thought so TOO!... now, that said, I don't know how long that has been listed, but as they linger, prices get softer until they sell!! I always figure that G&H pricing is maybe 50% over market, so I always start offering HALF of asking price!!

I'm sure you know of others like this!! I do, but reluctant to put names like that out on a Forum with suits in mind these days!!... but they start with CP and SL for starters!!

I would make an offer!! As you know, Custom Rifles are made for specific owners and often deviate from normal builds. Generally, it is very difficult to get what you paid for a good custom rifle unless a very well-known maker for a high-profile owner!!... Thinking Biesen, Fisher, etc...and as the younger generations develop, they won't even know who these fine Guild makers were... and they want Black guns anyway... so a further DETERIORATING Market??!!
I knew both of these fine makers, and Roger, Al Biesen's son who probably took Dad's quality to a higher plane... but I'm 81 next month!!

I wanted to dig you a little bit with a story!! In the 70's during my long Corporate career, I would walk up to the local Chet Paulson's gunshop on lunch breaks for exercise. He always had great stuff, and I bought my first Pre-64 Model 70 Winchester there... thru that connection and my father's yacht sale, I met the salesman at our local wholesaler, Washington Hardware.... thru that, I got to know the Importer/wholesaler of Brevex Actions, in Tacoma, Wa... just down the street from Paulson's!!
Believe it or not, the wholesaler was selling out the last imports of Brevex actions... I didn't have a clue what they were!!... even though Chet tried to educate me, and ol Joe Bartolat, of Dem-Bart Checkering Tool fame, also a custom gunmaker, a close friend!!
They were selling the last stock of them at $75 EACH... in a case of 12!!... yes, full Magnum length actions!!
That was $900 for the Case, +WA sales tax!! I was probably making about that a Month... my wife was still in college, and the rent was $150!!... I didn't buy any... and later, came to VERY MUCH, regret missing that opportunity... certainly better than the Stock Market!!

End of Story!!
CheerZ,

Thanks for the reply. You know back then Tradewinds retail was only $118.50. We all have HORROR stories like that. I have several. When I had my gun shop in the mid 70's, all I wanted was "new" introduced guns, like Steyr Aug, and Detonics, and Kimber, etc. I turned away dozens and dozens of old Winchesters, and Marlins, and K98 Mausers, etc.

As for Brevex Mausers, at least 3 of my 18 were acquired for under $800, and another 10 for less than $2,000. These days most sell for $3,500 to $4,500, and only my original John Rigby, 416 Rigby Big Game Rifle, was acquired for more, but still less than one-half of those that are for sale on Guns International. - https://forums.accuratereloadi...4711043/m/1781086672[/QUOTE]

However, to offset my regrets over missed opportunities, some times I get lucky. Would you believe I got the George Hoenig Brevex Mauser for only $725.. - https://forums.accuratereloadi...4711043/m/3551033362

First rate.
The 416 that I "built" was originally a 1950s pre-64 M-70 in 375 H&H. It had been abused through a threaded comp and cut original stock. That was remedied by a spacer and recoil pad.
Then Richard Nickle in WA. re-bored and cut rifled-
re-chambered it to 416 Remington. Accurate with 400 gr Hornadys or Swifts.

I got my best pre-64 Model 70 .375 H&H from Lou Leonard of Portland. Lou was a gentleman of the first order. His was a pre-war heavy barreled Super Grade. Some of his custom rifles and Model 70s came from an Alaskan collection-which is another interesting story.
Would have liked to have been around for those
Brevex actions near Paulson's.

BUCKSTIX- I'm very envious of your 70s Paul Roberts Rigby!! Really well done piece of Paul Roberts Rigby!! He turned out quite a few rifles in this Era and they do come to market from time to time in the $6-10k range based on caliber and actions used. He used many different actions.

I would love to own an old original Magnum Mauser 416 Rigby, Rigby. I'm told there were less than 100 of these built!! I recall Wilbur Smith's father had one, and Wilbur probably still has it?? Famous writer, Jack O'Connor had one he hunted with. A friend of mine owned it later, with lots of provenance, offered about 5 years ago at $60k... by one broker mentioned previously!! Didn't sell, owner took it back and later sold it himself. I don't know who or how much?? Maybe Bill Jones, the collector of fine old PH rifles of fame??

I just recalled it was TRADEWINDS in Tacoma,WA who was importer of the Brevex. I have seen them advertised recently as high as $3000!!

Here is an ad for an action-

Here is an old ad for Brevex on ebay-
https://www.ebay.com/itm/135111142851

Here is a great article in AFRICAN HUNTING GAZETTE-

I'm envious of your collection!!

hello 450 Fuller

Here a couple of my NON-Brevex 416 Rigby rifles. I have 8 rifles in my favorite 416 caliber. I still own, and shoot these two regularly.

Now there is a second Ryan Breeding custom on a Brevex action with Griffin and Howe, 416Rigby, and 505 Gibbs. They are expensive, but I would make a package offer!!

There is a 3rd Brevex Custom in 460Weatherby, on GI, down in North Carolina. $12,000.

Just go to GI, in browse, select Rifles, in Quick Search, type in Brevex. All three come up.

Did you buy the Brevex action out there on Google search with Dismal River Armory??? Maybe that's an old ad just hanging on Google??

Hello 470EDDY,

I have seen those ... Well, they are all 3 WAY above my pay grade. I never paid that much for any of my 18. #18 was $3,150 at auction. I didn't buy the bare action.
