After browsing through a Kettners catalogue, I was impressed by the different number of deer stalking and boar hunting books available in German.

With the idea of learning some basic German and maybe increasing the range of my reading material, I have looked around the Net and the local book stores at the various German language study aids. It soon became apparent that none of these are aimed at the hunter/stalker. Does anyone know where I could get a German language phrase book/cd specialising in hunting phrases ect? I was wondering if any of the German hunting associations produce such a booklet??

I have tried a couple of the on-line translation services on descriptions in the Kettner catalogue, but they weren't much help either...

Any ideas would be welcome,

Regards

Peter

Hallo Pete,

for the guns, gunsmithing and shooting, there are some translations available. For hunting I don't know one. But I never looked for.
If I find something, I will post here.

Best Regards

In some library ( I think either Kings or Senate House) I have seen a German-English Dictionary for Military Terms( published during or shortly after the war). It covered at least all the weapon related words.

And here http://www.jagd.de/service/lexikon/sprache_a you will find a translation of all hunting words into plain German.

Hello there;
Our Guides use a translation sheet 600 different hunting related words. German-English-French. perhaps you want to check the internet for "Jagdreise-Woerterbuch" if no luck I could fax the 5 pages to you. Sorry I wont use my Scanner, last time I tried it crashed my Computer. Carl.

Pete,

I don't know if this will help at all, but here is a pretty cool translation website which will do german/english translation:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/translate.dyn

it will also translate websites, i.e. you type in the URL of the website and it converts it for you. Unfortunately it doesn't have as many languages as one would wish.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks again guys!

Karl,

You could start by calling Kettners and Franconia and telling them to print there catalogues in English! [Wink]

But seriously I may just take you up on that offer!

Have a good Christmas All,

Regards,

Pete
