Huge question. Here are some good places. Aregentina resonable, and good free ranging New Zealand, expensive and huge may or may not be free ranging. Poland reasaonble Hungary huge stags can be expensive Czech Republic same as above Germany & Austria not cheap to expensive England both free ranging and fenced can be cheap or expensive Scotland free ranging smaller variety of deer Sweden free ranging smealler variety of deer Spain, not cheap but mostly free ranging smaller type stag Turkey super expensive, different kind of red deer Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, most of the Eastern block good prices, but organization is lacking. Texas, cheap or as expensive as you want to go, quality from very good to very poor Laurentian Wildlife in Quebec, biggest fenced stags in the world, high prices Here would be my top 5 and why. Austria or Germany for the experience, food, and sights. You guys could go see all the WW2 monuments like the Bergtesgarten as well as a lot of Sound of Music type stuff. My 2 favorite hunting destinations. Grimm's Fairytale Europe. Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic. Not quite as well known for tourism, but good cheap touring and good food, and better stags on average than Austria or Germany. Almost Grimms Fairytale Europe. United Kingdom or Scotland. Because of the language ability and the chance to see wonderful castles, battlefields and experience maximum quantness. Argentina, I'd use Calcatre Ranch, wonderful food and lodging and if you speak any Spanish at all Argentina is charming. I wouldn't go to New Zealand or Australia for red stags based on the very expensive American to Aus/Kiwi dollar exchange rates, and the way Kiwis view Americans as a cash cow. Not that hunting will be bad, just expensive. Booking agents? I would trust these 4 people. Clark Jeffs of Safari Outfitters Ken Wilson of Sportsmen on Film Diana of Denmark www.diana.dk, not cheap but good service And from these pages I would trust Ghubert in the UK. Just a hell of a nice guys. http://www.athinahuntingtours.com/

For european hunting oppportunities Jan Krossteig@Diana Hunting has a great reputation for producing the goods. In the UK Tom Gould@Shavesgreen Safaris or Malc Harman@UKoutfitters. Some of those west country red stags can run big.

You forgot Norway in your list MOA More than 35000(36800 last year) red deer are shot in Norway every year. 69deer, there are lots of options and many great places to go. It all depends on what sort of hunting you want, how big trophies you want and how much money you are willing to pay. My personal top 5 list is not the same as MOAs If you manage to be a bit more detailed about what sort of Red stag hunt you want, I think it will be much easier to give you good advice about where to go.

All good suggestions. My personal recommendation for a first red stag hunt would be in the highlands of Scotland. You can go shoot a big lowland trophy thereafter, but it won't be as memorable.

Spain has excellent hunting of free ranging red stag in breath taking environments in the Northern Cantabrian mountain range. You can try the hunting reserves or local outfitters who buy quotas at the government auctions, mostly in Castilla y León Currently, due to the coutry's deep economical recession (too many years of Socialist rule) prices once more are affordable.

I hunted in Germany for roe deer and Spain for wildboar and red deer. I have lived in Europe for almost 10 years, and now in Australia for 2. In Spain I was unsuccesful, and I wouldn't recommend the ranch I hunted on. The area around Seville was good for free ranging stags. Since I lived in Spain at the time I was able to hunt with people threw aquaintances. As for Germany, I would talk to Ken Wilson. The guy I hunted roe bucks with did not have a red deer revier. We saw stags but they were behind high fence. Both Ken Wilson and Diana Tours can offer red deer in Czedh Republic, Romania, the UK, ammong other places. As for Calcatre Safaris you will need to talk to Clark Jeffs. I know several people that hunted there.

I know there are lots of places to shoot big trophy stags but for me, and despite the fact it is on my door step, I'd head for Scotland just for the whole experience. Here are a few links to trip reports I've posted in the past, the first one is for hinds but gives some idea of the ground and the 2nd one concerns a small stag I shot in September: http://forums.accuratereloadin...5421043/m/5871051071 http://forums.accuratereloadin...401032461#2401032461

You could try Euston Estate in Thetford, Suffolk/ Norfolk borders. Think there is a waiting list but some spectacular trophies are shot there each year as a result of careful management. The West Country produces some great heavy heads but you never tend to see them advertised. All off the above will cost £3000+.

Ghubert of Athina Hunting Tours?! Did you go on a guided hunt for kebabs or cheap cider? Surely you have our portly, swarthy, brothers mixed up - are you referring to Fallow Buck by chance? I think Ghubert saw a video of a red deer once.

Just for the record, I do like Kebabs and I don't like cheap cider. It was a bad experience in the west country, and nobody told me the twigs were optional. As for Athina Hunting Tours I am the sole owner and operator of it but we all benefit from Amir's entertainment skills on occasional hunts. As for the Red Deer, I am planning to take a Trophy Red in Norfolk this year in October, so if you fancy joining me, drop me a PM. Rgds, Kiri Rgds, Kiri

My ageing friend Smallbore is quite correct, Kiri is the man behind Athina. I'm just a very (mostly ) satisfied customer. You can take the reccomendation of Smallbore on all matters deer stalking. Not only is his ability to put together an appropriate stalking outfit second only to the much younger Gok Kwan, he is also one of the Western world's leading experts on deer identification and sexing. He has not even seen a video of a red deer however so restrain your questions to fallow.

Isn't Smallbore, one Diggory Haddock with whom your mate FB has some long standing commercial involvement with? I apologuise if either of these points are incorrect.

You're selling handbags as well as skirts now? Dude, I said it on this year's Ampton hunt, you've changed....

You said a lot of things on this years Ampton hunt... Yes I'm now making bags, skirts, breeks, tweed jackets, roe sacs, gunslips, and about 20 other items in the range. But this has nothing to do with where 69Deer can shoot a red stag so perhaps another thread? Rgds, K

I can't argue with any of the above - except the incorrect spelling of my name! Red deer - like big rabbits, right, but smaller ears and you need a bigger rifle.... but basically the same deal.

If 69deer could give a rough frame of what he is willing to pay and what sort of Red Stag hunt he wants, then it would be much easier to give a good advice.

He used to, but he doesn't need to do that sort of work anymore.
