Hey guys
What’s this Romania nonsense again about roe deer, red stags and chamoi turmoil
Anyone can enlighten us?


Never been lost, just confused here and there for month or two

Just got back two days ago from a red stag hunt in Romania. The outfitter told us that there are some NGO’s that are pressuring the Romanian government to halt hunting there. No decisions have been made yet, but yes, there is some political turmoil there regarding sport hunting.

There are a number of entities trying to close or restrict hunting, in particular predators, chamois and migratory birds.
I cannot remember how long this is going on, but probably +15years or so.
It's on/off but they are persistent.

What a shame. I love Romania. Been there three times. Twice for Brown Bear and once to see Metallica in concert!


10 out of 10. Can recommend. Even the Bear hunting there rocks! beer

brussels unlected people are telling the countries what they want and if the countries rely on brussels money that means not that much choice left ...

As far far as my info goes, it’s Romanian courts and some kinda green coalition against hunting

Thanks for that info. Sounds very similar to the antis actions in Turkiye trying to shut down Bezoar Ibex hunting. Seem like every year they have a little more success in excluding hunting in some areas with the objective to shut down hunting everywhere eventually. Which seems perverse as Bezoar Ibex populations rebounded after legal hunting reopened.
I hope the Romanian govt have the courage to restore Red Stag hunting.

Yes that's my understanding also.

The way they fight against hunting in Romania is not similar to most countries in the EU.
The EU is chipping away on hunting rights step by step. In Romania they always fight to take away the whole thing for conservation reasons (which are sometimes partly valid).
