Hi guys, My wife and I love to hunt together and we would like to hunt in Europe. She wants to harvest a mouflon and I would like to harvest a wild boar. We like to hunt together so firstly she would hunt the mouflon and I would be an observer. After she has her mouflon I would hunt the boar and she would be the observer. I would like to hunt the boar either spot and stalk (I know it wold be difficult) or high stand. We would like to go for 7 days. Here is the big question does anyone think it could be done for USD $9000.00. This of course does not include flights to the country where the hunting will take place.

Thanks in advance for invaluable information that AR members always provide.

It is not that easy to shoot a mouflon, and shooting a pig in broad daylight on a spot and stalk is even more difficult. Pigs are mostly nocturnal, and are mostly hunted from seats at night - or on driven hunts... Pigs are occasionally shot on stalks, but there is a lot of luck involved (I shot one stalking last year, but it is a fairly rare occurrence).

That said, for those two animals I would strongly consider heading to the hills (mountains?) of Northern Hungary. Many years back, I shot quite a few pigs stalking in that area, and they have good mouflon populations as well (possibly the best in Europe, except that some of the bigger rams come from the Czech Republic and Slovakia). Northern Hungary probably has more pigs than any part of Hungary - but you still need good luck.

If you are coming from far away, and you want to have a fighting chance of achieving what you set out to do, you need an absolute top hunting area. These people represent the *best* areas in Hungary and (if anybody can) will be able to help you choose an area and the best time...

Just drop them a mail in English, they are pretty good at responding.

P.S. I overlooked your question about $$$. In Hungary, your greatest expense will be the trophy fees - if you are lucky enough to shoot something. I'm guessing that your stay (including room and board, guide, licences and fee, transport from/to Budapest) should easily be doable for US$1000. That would leave you $8000 for trophy fees, If you are only looking to shoot a mouflon and a pig (boar), that should easily be doable, and you would be able to afford very decent trophies.

If you get in touch with a hunting area (e.g. via Sevako linked above), you will receive their price list, so you can see what is possible on your budget. When you arrive (or when you book), you must specify the size of animal (trophy fee) you are looking for. Hungary has some rule that if an animal is more than 10% (I believe?) more expensive than what you have agreed to, you can refuse to accept and pay for it. It is the responsibility of your guide to ensure you find what you are looking for.

O-6,

I am in full agreement with Mike; who's advice is sage.

He's a skilled hunter, fine Gentleman & fantastic hunting Companion.

Sadly, though all who address such inquiries here in the Euro Forum require the ability to sort through my jaded Euro perception; so try bearing with me and filter the Good News from the Bad News according to Gerry .....

hilbily

First & foremeost BRING all of the remuneration (in Cash) you previously mentioned in the above thread - I'll guide you and Mrs. O-6. Promise to be sober when I do it!

shocker

All joking aside.

November is the Mouflon month, the rut. I have a German/CZ Outfitter who can certainly put you on a well above representative Trophy Mouflon Ram in @ 4 days for alot less than you mentioned above and afford some great Piggie shooting on top of that as well.

I know because he took 5 of my buddies to the CZ Republic for an extended weekend and they all shot excellent Trophies and were back home in The Fatherland on Monday afternoon.

Also the Wild Boar rut (won't go into all the gory details of who, what, when, where & why) gets fired up in December so November isn't too bad a place to be either .....

Piggie stalking isn't for Whoosies but it can be done; like Mike I've managed acoupla successes and they are Cool! BUT we reside here and use the weather and terrain to our advantages without having to live under potential time constraints that could/may/be a factor for yourself. There's nothing wrong to sit for them at night either. Snow, moonlight and optimal conditions all play a role because even with Diana smiling at you both the best plans go astray and plots foiled than successes, too. Piggies are never a pushover under current ethical hunting constraints here in Europe.

Pardon my rambling (it's just me) at your perfectly level inquiry.

I you desire please send me a pm.

Waidmannsheil!

Cheers,
