Good German name for a GSP pup

My German Shorthaired Pointer 'Siegfried' died last week, and I am in the market for a new GSP male pup.

I'm looking for suggestions for a new name for the little fellow - no puppy selected yet but soon.

I prefer a German name for a GSP, and something grand like "Siegfried" maybe out of a legend or an opera. A two syllable name is always best for calling however.

I'm hoping the esteemed members of this forum maybe able to help with suggestions! Thanks. thumb

PS If I got another dog at the same time as Siegfried I always liked "Hagan", but I thought that might be looking for trouble!

In order to fit into Siegfried's steps, I'd think that only Wotan or Thor are appropriate. As an additional benefit, both names can be shouted well:

"WWWWOOOOTTTAAANN, COME HEEEERRRRREEE YOU &§%$/&%§/$&%!!!!!!

FWIW:

I prepare a list of names and then over a period of a couple days use a different name for the puppy until I identify a name the puppy responds to best. In effect, the puppy names itself.

My GSP male is named "Rommel" as well. A friend of mine liked the name so much he named his chocolate lab the same. I informed him that you could only hang that moniker on a German dog. He informed me that he had a "German Chocolate Lab".

Erwin Rommel was IMHO a hero, stood up against Hitler (admittedly too late)and knew how to loose and even die with style.

Okay, perhaps a hero, but a hero without a victory!
I´ll call my lab - sorry, but I have not one - Montgomery, because he has won all battles against Rommel - in Africa and in the Normandie!

Umm this is not very accurate. The Afrika Corps under Rommel ran rings around the 8th army for over a year until Auchinlake (can never spell his name) was replaced by Montgomery. So Rommel won plenty of battles but lost the campaign (IMHO mainly due to Hitler and the Russian campaign)

Montgomery didn't beat Rommel in Normandy as he was only part of the allied forces and not in overall command.

If NitroX has a dog called Seigfried then the other ought to be called 'Line' Big Grin

Rommel was at his time in Africa a strong follower oh H., yes he has won some little battles, but lost the African war. Yes, Monty was only one of the allies, like Patton, Eisenhower... But he won all important figts against Rommel.
Rommel was not the typical german officer of the 20th July like von Stauffenburg, von Boeselager and so on. And not persons like Rommel brought us in Germany democrathy, freedom and liberty. This was done by the allies!

Oh well, thanks God the world is black and white like most dogs...

By the way, Rommel's son Manfred was mayor in my town. He was I guess as untypical a mayor as his father was as untypical as an officer so people reelected him about 10 times.

Wow!

Didn't know my choice in Dog's names was so controversial. I have a friend who named his GSP "Ike" as in short for Eichman not as in Eisenhower. Another friend named his Kaiser.

I really like the earlier suggestion of "Mauser". In fact I like it so much that I 've already picked it for my next male GSP.

"Klaus"

You can project that name pretty well.

"Erich" projects well also. As in Erich Hartmann, the greatest fighter Ace of all time (352 aerial victories).

I only hunt over female GSP's. I presently have "Uschi" (the vertical dog) and "Magda" (the queen bitch of the world). Magda is a wildernde Katzen ace. 41 confirmed kills in canine/feline combat. A credit to her breed, indeed!

Hi,

"Hasso" is an almost ancient german name for dogs (typically shepherds).

And if you want something WWII-related:
Hasso von Manteuffel was a German Tank-General
