Just had a shower in the KLM Lounge in Amsterdam; sipping champagne waiting for my flight to Glasgow. Ms AZW will meet me there; she was on the BA flight from PHX to London. Should be a good time; hunting with Fallow Buck

Good hunting. I just left Fallow Buck and his bird shooting bunch. I downed a couple of hill stags at Glenmuick Estate. Great fun. I look forward to your report.

You will have a great time with Kiri and the boys! Clara and I stalked with him and his crew last year and will definitely go again in the future. Larry

If the two of you are ever on the A-9, north of Pitlochry and see the exit for House of Bruar, exit and spend a couple of hours. One of the best high-end clothing, accessories, luggage, fishing gear, cashmere, and so-on stores to be found anywhere. A very nice restaurant also. Save most of your shopping to be done there. Good luck on your stag.

+1 for House of Bruar. I could have gotten in trouble there buying lots of hunting gear and clothing. Very well done.

Most of the stuff is over-priced and can be gotten cheaper elsewhere - BUT NOT ALL - look carefully!! Also go round the back - they have a sale hall with ends of line etc - some real bargains there.

Now you tell me! Sorry I missed the sale hall. I did keep it to one pair of moleskin/jeans off the sale rack. I did notice that Norman's small store in Ballater was much more reasonably priced.

I am in merry old England right now near the Lakes District in a cozy little cottage awaiting the arrival of our friends from Manchester. Shot two stags during the hunt, both on the second full day. Shot a juvenile spike in the morning and a mature stag in the afternoon. If I had brought my own rifle, I am sure I would have smacked a very nice 12 point stag, but at 423 yards, I wasn't sure where my hired rifle would impact at that range, so instead of shooting, we tried to stalk closer, but that plan didn't work. I ended up shooting my second stag at 335, but even that was dicey: my stalker said to hold 6 inches over the beast's (I love that term) back but I ended up with a high lung hit that was only about 3-4 inches away from a miss (afterwards, my iPhone ballistics program said total drop for that 25-06 load was only about 12 inches, so I knew I was high). I shot it just before dark, and by the time we got to the general area it was pretty dark and we had a long hike back, so we left him. He had fallen with my second shot, so we knew he was dead. We found him the next morning. MDStewart and his wife hunted at the same time we did, but I will let him post any details he would like to share. I was really happy with the accommodations and my stalker. Nothing like a small hotel in Scotland that has a pub; unlike the US, you get some locals every night that add to the color of the adventure. One night a sporting artist visited the bar; both MD and I bought really beautiful prints of trout. Ms AZW and I climbed Ben Nevis yesterday; she did it in 2:21 and I did it in 2:30. The record time (there is actually a race) is 1:25:4 for men and 1:43:24 for women - so she did really well considering she stopped a few times while i changed clothes, etc. and she wasn't going all out. Scotland is a beautiful place and you get a lot of value for your dollar. Ms AZW said she wants to return every other year.

I'll post a separate hunt report once I get time to download some pictures. I took a nice 4 year old 8 pointer that the stalker estimated to be 350-375 lbs. on the last day with a minute of light left, I took another one, a really old gray faced 9 pointer with a great black rack, wide and tall. Stalker estimated at least 400 lbs. Great hunt with some really beautiful and challenging terrain. Kiri, Jacob, and my super deer stalker Neil Griffith (Grif) were just wonderful and the hotel (Ken Bridge Inn) was perfect and the owner David went out of his way to take care of us. Another AZ Hunter and his Missus were great fun and would very much love to share time with them again. Hey AZ, congrats on climbing BN!! It was good to see you both and share some stories. We should look at some Deeside stags next time you guys are over. K

If you can climb those hills you hunt, BN is a piece of cake. After BN Ms AZW and I visited a castle that they filmed a scene from Downton Abbey; I handed in my man card to the guy who took the tickets. I also wrote a good review for Dave and Sue's place on Trip Advisor. The B&B we stayed at after hunting was twice the price and half as good. MC: shoot me a PM if you want details, but include your reg email so I can type a proper response if you don't mind.
