Hi Guys
A couple of days ago whilst chewing the fat at a sports shop I told a bloke who asked what I shoot that I have a Blaser.
I pronounced the word "Blarser" only to be told that the correct pronunciation is "Blayser".
A long discussion ensued about the nature of language, how it changes and that there is not a correct pronunciation of any word. Further that
pronunciation is a matter of a transitory convention. Indeed the use of some words is negotiable and meaning changes over time.
None the less the other fellow insisted he was right in saying Blayser.
I am curious, how do our German speaking friends pronounce Blaser, "Blayser" or "Blarser" or some other emphasis?
Please don't tell me it's prononced Mauser

I have been told that it is "Blauser".

The Blaser people I speak with pronounce it Blauzer..

Here in Germany it is pronounced Blahser.

you have to take in consideration that the pronuntiation change in English and that what Jeff Sullivan and 404WJJeffery wrote Blauser or Blauzer, sounds when pronunciated as Blahser.

Quite by chance, and that's how things go, a couple of hours after posting the above I met a German who's pronunciation was Blahser.

Those of us who speak German, pronounce it a bit like Blahser (the "h" being almost soundless"), others who are more english-oriented pronounce it like Blazer or Blayser or something thereabout.
Which is correct? I have no idea. My logic says that because the firm comes from a German speaking part of the world, we should pronounce it like the Germans do. An example: we pronounce the name of a well-known US president like you americans do , we dont call him Butch or Putsch or something. So, in my mind, the same courtesy should apply to the german language.

To the double barrelled rifle brigade both Blaser and Sako are pronounced Cheap.
