Here is the propaganda on the RWS website:

For more than 40 years IWA OutdoorClassics has been regarded as the most important international showcase for hunting and sporting goods, ammunition and accessories, outdoor equipment and safety equipment. Only legitimate trade visitors and dealers have access and can get information about the new products. For this reason, we exclusively present our RWS rifle cartridge novelties here.

News 2017 in the RWS rifle cartridges for hunting:

1. RWS 10.3 x 68 Mag. - The new dimension : Universal cartridge for every hunting opportunity

With the 10.3 x 68 Mag. We present this year a real world novelty. By a modern synthesis of the legendary RWS 68 sleeve length and the traditional Bündnerischen 10,3mm bullet diameter, we have managed to redefine Magnum cartridges completely. The cartridges with a reduced sleeve length of 68 mm form the basis for a pallet of possible bullet weights between 11 g and 26 g.

Depending on the requirements, the power range is between .30-06 and .416 Rem. Thus, the 10.3x68 mag. Covers an active spectrum, suitable for hunting from the marmot to the strong African buffalo.

The RWS 10.3 x 68 Mag. In its element In the new RWS video, the 10.3 x 68 Mag. Shows its full performance during the hunt for a capital keeper. Breathtaking landscapes and spectacular perspectives make this trailer an unforgettable experience. But see for yourself at https://rws-munition.de

The advantages of the RWS 10.3 x 68 Mag. At a glance:

• Cross-Section Plus Plus +
The 10.3 x 68 Mag. And its large cross-section provides up to 81% more stopping effect compared to the conventional center caliber with comparable rebound characteristics. In combination with a modern projectile structure, the effectiveness of this caliber is further increased and can be adapted to any game thickness.

• SMART MAGNUM TM Effect
The 10.3 x 68 Mag redefines comfortable shooting in the Magnum class and extends the range of Magnum cartridges to a whole new dimension. Independent of the speed, the enlarged cross-section of the storey ensures an exceptionally high depth effect in the wild body.

• A caliber for
everything Whether it is a marmot in Austria or a Kaffernbüffel in Africa, the 10.3 x 68 Mag. Is a caliber for everything. In no other caliber are projectile weights of 11 g to 26 g realizable and cover almost every hunting opportunity. No matter whether in the local area or on the foreign hunt.

RWS 10.3 x 68 Mag .: Available bullets

At the market entry, we offer two partial dismantling shells with proven two-core technology: a lead-free and a lead-containing. The lead-based RWS Speed Tip Pro 10.3 x 68 mag. With 18.5 g is one of the latest developments from RWS. It is characterized by its guaranteed stop effect and a high shot power even at long distances. The compact perforation core ensures a safe scraping. It is applied to all shellfish, with best suitability for medium to very strong game.

The RWS EVO Green 10.3 x 68 Mag. With 13.5 g projectile weight offers a lead-free alternative. It is distinguished by its high speed with extended trajectory, a powerful momentary effect and a safe committee. The comparatively low projectile weight is very low backlash. It is applied to light to strong shellfish.

An expansion of the floor selection is already planned.
It's a Magnum, a SmartMagnum TM - so our slogan for the new RWS 10.3 x 68 Mag.

2. RWS SPEED TIP PROFESSIONAL - Now new in the 30's caliber .300 Win. Mag., .30-06, .308 Win.

Last year, we launched SPEED TIP PRO projectile for the Long Range caliber .338 Lapua Magnum. The demand for further calibers is great - so we now extend the 30s caliber: .300 Win. Mag., .30-06 and .308 Win.

The projectile is equally suitable for short and wide shooting distances. Even at a distance of over 300 meters, the SPEED TIP PRO still reliably responds to the .30 calibers and brings enough energy into the target, correspondingly high the shock and stop effect.

The results in the reevaluation tests were exceptionally good. The leadless cartridge shows very good performance over the whole spectrum of the European wilds - from the deer to the heavy boar. The relatively light EVO GREEN projectile of 11.9 g gives the caliber 9,3 x 64 a very fast ballistics, which extends the scope of this caliber again. It’s a Magnum, a SmartMagnum™
Even we hunters avidly chase the latest trends
and often let the old ways – which we may
have followed for years, or even decades –
fall into disuse. Progress is unstoppable, yet
it is still worthwhile to look to the past since
proven principles have been developed that
have often been practiced for generations –
and for good reason. Things get interesting
when a new idea is born out of both traditional
solutions and modern developments
to reveal new horizons and possibilities. On
the following pages, you can learn everything
about the new 10.3x68 Magnum – the new
dimension in rifle calibres.
Hannes Dikhoff
RWS Product Manager

Hunters in the mountainous Swiss canton of
Graubünden have relied on the effectiveness
of 10.3 mm calibres for the past 150 years.
Rimfire Peabodys developed during America’s
civil war as well as Vetterli and Martini
stalking carbines developed after 1867 were
the predecessors of the 10.3x60R, to this
day the iconic calibre of the Bündner hunter.
Members of countless hunting dynasties shot
entire lifetimes’ worth of chamois, red stag
and roe deer with the same rifle, passed on
from one generation to the next. Thanks to
the effectiveness of its large bullet diameter
alone, it caused no problems and always
worked.
As time passed, the demands of the hunter
changed. Overseas hunting trips, long shots
in the mountains and the need for greater
stopping power on driven game hunts posed
new challenges to the 10.3x60R, especially
beyond the borders of Canton Graubünden.
One soon realized that there was a definite
potential for performance improvement in a
cartridge that already worked very well.
Visionary designer Peter Vonow focused on
this idea to pursue his desire to exploit the
advantages of a large bullet diameter. In
the end, he developed an effective universal
cartridge for the passionate hunter. The
well-known .416 Rem. Mag., .404 Jeffery
and 10.75x68 Mauser large game cartridges
played important roles as godparents to the
new round.
Combined with the legendary RWS case
length of 68 mm, the 10.3 mm bullet diameter
proves to be optimal for satisfying the most
modern of hunting requirements. Thus was
born the fundamental idea for the 10.3x68
Magnum calibre. A reduced case length of 68
mm serves as the basis for a balanced, very
well-mannered cartridge that offers a unique
palette of bullet weights between 11 and
26 grams (169 – 401 grains). Performance
levels vary between the .30-06 and the .416
Rem. Mag. with correspondingly comfortable
shooting qualities. In this way, the 10.3x68
Mag. uniquely and effectively covers the
entire hunting spectrum from marmots to the
largest African buffalos.
Born of an idea, the 10.3x68 Magnum opens
the door to a new dimension in hunting.
THE TIME IS RIPE TO MATE THE TRADITIONAL

UNCOMPROMISING WITH STRONG PARTNERS
Even the most effective calibre with the
best bullet only works when it hits where
it is supposed to. For that, it needs an efficient
weapons system. The Blaser R8 and the
Sauer 404 are now available as two reliable
solutions for maximum hunting success with
the 10.3x68 Mag.
10.3X68 MAGNUM – THE NEW DIMENSION
THE SMARTMAGNUM™ EFFECT
ONE CALIBRE FOR EVERYTHING
The uncompromising characteristics of the
10.3x68 Mag. unite long-standing tradition
with the newest technologies, opening the
door to a new dimension in hunting. Its large
cross-sectional area, choice of bullet weights,
and staggering stopping power with comfortable
recoil make this calibre unique.
10,3x68 Mag
.308 Win.
CROSS-SECTIONAL AREA PLUS+
This truth is no secret: A large cross-sectional
area puts the brakes on game!
The large cross-sectional area of the 10.3x68
Mag. bullet delivers up to 81% more stopping
power compared to ordinary medium
bores with similar recoil. The large impact
surface emulates the well-known rifled slug
effect and reduces wounded game flight dis-
The 10.3x68 Mag. redefines comfortable
shooting in the magnum class and expands
the useful range of magnum cartridges into an
entirely new dimension. Regardless of impact
velocity, the enlarged cross-sectional area
assures an extraordinarily great shock effect
in the body of the game animal. The variety
of bullet weights supports the versatility of this
calibre.
Whether after Austrian marmot or African
Cape buffalo, the 10.3x68 Mag. is one calibre
for everything. Bullet weights from 11 to
26 grams are practicable in no other calibre
and they cover almost every hunting situation,
whether in your home hunting grounds or on
foreign hunting trips.
tances to a minimum – even in the lead-free
version. The efficacy of this calibre is further
enhanced with modern bullet designs and
can be adapted to game of any weight.

SPEED TIP PRO
Highest knock-down power at all distances
Rapid advancements in firearms and optical
technologies make shooting and hunting
at long ranges possible. As hunting tourism
increases, so does the need for ammunition
designed for hunting game animals at all
ranges and of all weight classes. For example,
when mountain hunting or when after
heavy African game, deep penetration and
great stopping power are essential. RWS have
developed a modern hunting bullet to meet
these demands, the new SPEED TIP PRO. It
is reliable and effective for game weights of
all classes from close range to 300 metres
and beyond. RWS SPEED TIP PROFESSIONAL,
one of the latest developments from RWS, is
specially developed for great shock effect and
stopping power at the longest ranges.

I think it is more for Graubünden canton of Switzerland.

I am still interested as I always thought the .411 Caliber rifles were interesting, including the 10,3x60R.

What makes it nice is it is less recoil and power than the .416 Remington that most of them shoot, yet not as weak as the old 10,3x60R.

They also can't hunt with a repeater, so this gives them the option to use it as a single shot (like they did their Blaser R8/R93 10,3x60Rifles), but for hunts out of the Grison's they can hunt with it as a repeater.

I am hoping RWS sells projectiles in the new 10.3 green line through Triebel or someone else. I am going to bring a couple thousand of them home with me.

Ive used the 10.75 on Cape Buffalo, its an awesome caliber that got bad rapped by bad bullets but if you hand load a 400 gr. (423) Woodleigh at 2150 FPS or a 350 gr. at 2350 FPS, its a great gun, and can be made in a 8 or 9 lb. rifle without a lot of recoil..Its the most overlooked caliber I know of..

The 10.3 is an interesting caliber and appears to be the old .411/375 Wildcat???

I think it will be in the .411 KDF/416 Taylor range.

I am excited to see what the case measurements are against the .411 KDF when it becomes live later this year. By then I'll actually be in possession of a German firearms license and can get one.

I eyeballed Blaser R8 and Sauer 404 rifles today at the big Frankonia about 40 KM from my house. We will see what the result is, but I am leaning toward the Blaser Success, which is the thumbhole model.

The Sauer 404 doesn't come with steel receivers anymore, where the 202 did. So you can't shoot 416 Rem mag in the 404. My goal is to have 5 barrels, two stocks (and enough stuff to make 2 complete rifles).

Though honestly with the R93 I had 5 stocks, and 13 barrels. It was bad.

Here is a gunshop in Graubünden Canton Switzerland about 5 hours south of me.

He has about 30 10,3x60R rifles for sale. 25 of them are new Blaser, Sauer, Sabatti or Swiss Hunting Rifle.

Pretty neat!

That was the first we've made. I'd be interested to hear how it performs; seems similar to the 400 H&H.

gryphon,

Noticed you are starting a 10.3x68 build. What barrel will you be using? In the U.S., I can only find Lothar-Walther with the .413 groove but it has a 17.7" twist rate, which seems a slow for a more modern cartridge.

Curious to see what you plan to go with.
