Last monday evening, I shot this 6-pointer which was standing at 80 m, right on the edge of the wood and undecided wether to come out in the open or turn back into the bushes. It was 1/2 h after sundown and the already poor light was fading worse rapidly ; hence no time to spare, it was a shoot right awaty or let go situation. Luckily I happened to be engaged in field testing some gear from Blaser (R8 rifle in .30-06) and Swarovski (new EL Range 10x42 binos with built-in rangefinder + Z6i 2nd generation 1,7-10x42 scope). The buck was reduced to no more than a dark silhouette against bushes but the illuminated reticle made the shot easy.

3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact.
5 shots are a group.

Now if you had been testing a Baikal breakaction single shot with a Tasco Pronghorn mounted in some tasteful aluminium mounts and had been peering through some 10x50 bins sold in some supermarkets that buck might still be a dark silhouette in the bushes beer

Well done, good glass is always worth the investment. I took a young fox last night in the near dark at 140 yds. It stood out rather well against the stubble on the field.

Those shots at last light always get me trying to break bone and put the beast straight done on the ground.

Far better losing a couple ounces of meat, than losing an hour trying to follow up in the dark!
