| I'd go with the 7mm, probably not the RUM, as I don't think you need that power. Any 7mm case that can give 3000 fps +/- will do it. 280 AI? Ballistic Tips or VMAX bullets will provide proper terminal performance at the lower impact speed typical of long range shots. Better bullet selection for the 7mm caliber. Same for the .30's as well. The .308 is adequate for 1000 yard shooting BTW. First member of the 2000 yd club at www.varminthunter.org used a .308 for a prairie dog. Another place to look is www.longrangehunting.com for input. | 7mm Rem mag Sendero w/handloaded 160 grain SPBT Sierra @ 3100 fps - outstanding long range coyote performance! I think lighter bullets would be even better, but I was working up a deer load. Coyotes just provided excellent target practice!
Of course you don't need anywhere near this much gun for 'yote hunting. Regards, Guy |

Digital Dan, Appreciate the comments. I know about the guy that used the .308 for the 2000 yd. club--- I wrote the articles on him, and buddy in PS. Re., "Precision Shooting at 1000 Yards", Chapter 5, "Ultra Long-Range Shooting in CO- Parts 1-2-3", and 1 additional article in The Accurate Rifle mag.--2/02, "Quest for the 2 Mile Pr. Dog". Believe it or not, this guy's wildcatting the .408 Cheyenne Tactical Cartridge. He's necking it to .375, or some such venture, for a guy who wants the ULTIMATE in big game rigs. |

Thanks m700. I'm attempting to investigate just how far a coyote can be taken cleanly, in a damage control situation, after the fur breaks. At this time I need to be seen on some of the ranches I hunt, and I want the rancher to know I'm doing all I can to help with the coyote problem they think they have. |
