What are your opinions on the Savage 16FSS. It's their standard rifle with a stainless steel barrel and synchetic stock. Looking at it for a lightweight varmint gun in 223.

Who makes synthetic replacements stocks for Savage? I want one with a thumbhole and a high straight comp. Also, is the Sharp Shooters trigger upgrade any account or should I go with a Timney?

I'm looking at the same rig (xept in 308).

1) Sharpshooters makes a good stock. McMillan will adapt any of their 700 stocks, as well.
2) The sharpshooter trigger is better than the Timney. It's a toss-up betwixt the Rifle Basix and the Sharpshooter. That is, until Arnold Jewel starts selling his this Spring.......

Another option is to call the Savage custom shop and order your rifle with the SSS trigger. I don't know if they also have a stock upgrade. Worth checking. Might save money that way. HTH, Dutch.
