I'm not a shill . . .

Pandora.com plays music, no talking, no ads. You can select your "style" and they'll analyze the music and place stuff with those musical features.

Pandora.com calls it "The Music Genome Project."

These days I'm liking "Harmonica Boogie" but also some "Little Walter," and you won't believe this . . . "ABBA" comes up with some serious rock (Hall & Oates, "You Make My Dreams Come True")

Chicago, Pink Floyd, Stones, Creedence Clearwater, Paul DeLay . . .

The Mrs and I went to some friends for dinner a couple of months ago. He had Pandora APP on his Blackberry and then into the home music system. That was the first I had ever heard of Pandora, Sweet !!

Yeah, I have better taste in music than anyone on the radio. And Pandora doesn't talk over the lead-in or lead-out. (STFU! They're not done playing the music!)

I forked over for the higher bit rate/5 hour version. Worth every penny but they do occasionally throw something stupid on my female jazz(Madeleine Peyroux) station.

I got tired of it pretty fast.
They throw in a lot of stuff that I can't stand to listen to. Everyone in a while I will hear something new and very good. April Verch was one of those.

I use Pandora on my iphone, they do play a short commercial on occasion or throw in a song by an artist that I don't like. It's still 100% better than broadcast radio and way cheaper than satellite.

If nothing else it was worth the price of the app (free) to have music on the earphones while mowing. Big Grin

Sit at a WiFi connection w/ a laptop and "vote" on the music. When they play the "crap" mark a thumbs down and Pandora will keep it off the list for six months. If you provide "thumbs up" on tunes Pandora will tweak your list.

The other thing you can do. When you get a tune you like, create a "station" with that artist or tune name. I have maybe two dozen "stations" for "boogie woogie" piano, harmonica, blues.

This is what I get on their site:

Dear Pandora Visitor,

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.

Ah well. worse things happen at sea.

That stinks.
I had given up on Pandora about 2 years ago.
I tried it again last night and it was vastly improved. I hit a streak of about 15 thumbs up to 3 thumbs down.

+1 on Pandora

Listening to the Williams Brothers on Peter White radio as I type this. Sitting in my back yard on my laptop, smokin' a stogie and enjoying a cold brew.

I follow Texas music or what is sometimes called Americana or alternate country. Whatever the proper name is---it's not nash trash---and Pandora knows almost all of it. I've only been able to stump her 2 0r 3 times. She now kicks me off after 40 hrs per month, but is a great source to listen to via computer--or iphone.

That's one of the reasons I forked over for premium service.
The other is the higher bit rate sounds better on the house stereo.

40 hrs a month?

I listen probably 4 hrs/day, five days/wk. The site asks me "Are You Still Listening?" But I've never been booted for hours.

Coffee house I frequent runs 10 hrs./day, seven days a week. I don't know if they have a "Premium Service" . . .

We're still learning.
